Religious Practices Message

Melissa Immel & Mark Wolkow

It's hard to believe that it has been a whole year since our lives turned

upside down. We watched as our schools, businesses, and Temple

closed. Every year as spring arrives, there is a feeling of optimism and

renewal. Yet this year, there seems to be something extraordinary and

hopeful as the days become longer, the weather turns warm, and more of

our friends and family get vaccinated.

Our Temple continues to stream services online, but rest assured, the

Religious Practices Committee is working towards a plan to return to

shul safely. In the meantime, please frequent our website and calendar

for Zoom links to Shabbat Services on Friday nights at 7:00 pm, Taking

Hold of Torah and Mindfulness & Meditation on Saturday mornings at 9:30

am, and a variety of other educational and entertaining programs.

B’Shalom,

Mark Wolkow & Melissa Immel

Kehillah MAGNET Message

Joel Yoffee

Hello Temple Adas Shalom Community,

Due to current COVID restrictions. Safe virtual learning will continue for the

remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. We are currently re-evaluating

situations for the 2021-2022 school year. A survey will be forthcoming to all

parents help the Kehillah MAGNET Religious school committee make the best

decision possible.

Kehillah MAGNET is in need of a teacher for the 2021-2022 school year for

Sunday grades Pre K/K/ Grade 1. NO teaching experience necessary!

Here are some of the many perks that come with the job:

Work with some amazing students and fellow teachers educating our children

Lesson plans are pre-made, easy, and FUN!

A basic knowledge of Hebrew is preferred, but not required, to teach K and Grade1.

These are paid positions.

Sunday positions involve teaching Sundays from 9:00 am -12:00 pm.

If you and a friend would like to co-teach (each teaching half time), we can make that happen!

If you have any questions or would like to express an interest, please contact

Jennifer Bober at principal@templeadasshalom.org or contact Joel Yoffee at

joelyoffee@gmail.com.

Kehillah MAGNET still has student availability at all grade levels! If you have a

child or know of a family with children interested in learning more about their

Jewish heritage, Kehillah MAGNET might be the learning environment for

them. We would love the opportunity to discuss our Jewish educational

programs with all those interested. Please contact our Principal, Jenn Bober, at

principal@templeadasshalom.org, for additional information.

As always, parents answering your questions and concerns about Temple Adas

Shalom's Kehillah MAGNET Religious School Program is very important to us,

and we would love the opportunity to talk directly with you. You always have a

voice!

Many Thanks,

Joel Yoffee

Fundraising News

Terry Weiner

Flash Fundraiser!

Starting on April 1, 2021, and continuing through April 21, 2021, Temple

Adas Shalom will be hosting a fundraiser just in time for Spring! When

you think of Spring, we think of rebirth and fresh air and getting

outdoors – Flower Power is just that! Their offerings include bulbs,

seeds, and edibles with complete instructions on how to plant.

You can view the offerings on http://TempleAdasShalom.fpfundraising.com

Once again, just like in the Miss Chocolate fundraiser, if you group all of

your orders, there is only one shipping charge of $6.00.

Fifty percent (50%) of all sales will come back to our synagogue. All

products are guaranteed – if for some reason you are not completely

satisfied with your product upon delivery, Flower Power will replace it.

You can contact the company directly at (888) 833-1486 with any

questions you may have.

Please support nature and the temple with your

order. I just did!

NEWS!!

The “Tree of Life” display in the sanctuary lobby only has leaves left for

Simchas. All of the memorial stones designated for remembering those

you love have been purchased. We will inquire about the possibility of

purchasing more memorial stones if there is an interest. The cost to

reserve and engrave these stones is $1000.

Sisterhood will discuss the possibility of funding efforts to improve our

air filtering system, if needed, to reduce possible Covid -19 virus

implications. Another funding thought is to replace the Hanukkah

outdoor menorah.

If you have any questions or input, please contact Pat Wolkow.

Adult Education News

Stephen Marksamer

In March, we finished up two classes: Wicked Women of the Bible and Hebrew in a

Jiffy. Both were well attended and survey responses showed a significant level of

appreciation, enjoyment, and success. Thank you to Mark Wolkow and Linda Needel

for leading the Hebrew in a Jiffy class and Rabbi Gila Ruskin for her insightful Wicked

Women of the Bible class.

Our Adult Education “Lunch & Learn” series will continue on April 6th from 12:00

pm – 1:30 pm, as Rabbi John Franken will discuss Democracy in America, with an

increased understanding aided by Jewish interpretation and impact. No registration is

necessary. Zoom links are in the Newsletter.

Our April Book Discussion will be on zoom on April 17th from 10:00 am – 11:30 am, as

Rabbi John Franken will discuss our selection this quarter: The Last Interview by Eshkol

Nevo. This compelling novel is a layered portrayal of friendship, family, and identity.

Reserve now at our Harford Public Library through their online website. No

registration is necessary. Zoom links are in the Newsletter.

The Adult Education Committee is excited to announce 4 new classes coming in May.

Taking Control of Your Thoughts on Saturday, May 1st, 15th, and 22nd from

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm via zoom with Marc Getz, LCPC. This is an interactive exploration

and discussion of how, as human beings, we can manage what we think, and in turn,

what we feel and do.

Breaking the Being There Barrier on Saturday, May 1st, 15th, and 22nd from

1:30 pm – 2:30 pm via zoom with Stu Needel. Stu will discuss the simple truths and

essence of what transforms online presentations from a mundane task to a genuine

opportunity for profound experiences.

The Mark and Linda team will lead a new Hebrew Prayer of the Month

Club. Focusing on one prayer each month, the objective will be to make sure all

participants can accurately read Hebrew and then provide at least one melody

commonly used to sing the prayer. This club, less formal than a class, is targeted to start

in May, meeting monthly for an hour. Additionally, they have offered to lead a class

on Trope. The objective will be for every attendee to chant from the Torah using a

system known as Trope. The intended schedule is weekly on Monday evenings at 7:00

pm, beginning in June and running for approximately ten (10) weeks. Look for exact

time/date announcements soon.

Finally, because there will be so much more, I am now collecting ideas for a film series

reviewing and discussing Jewish life and times.

If you want to add a film title to this series or register for any of these four new classes send

an email to adulted@templeadasshalom.org.

Sincerely,

Stephen Marksamer
