New this year is Y Camp 

Director, Ricky Gonzalez 

who joins the Y after 

working as a Camp Director 

with the Evanston Recreation 

Department for 14 

years. 

“For my first summer 

at NSYMCA, I am most 

excited to get to know and 

work with all the families 

and campers in the community,” 

Gonzalez said. “I 

am also looking forward to 

introducing everyone to a 

wider variety of games and 

activities, new specialty

to make our Y camps the 

safest and most fun they

offers variety of fun 

camp experiences 

Make new friendships, lifetime memories, 

find a new sport or take in all the wonders 

of nature this summer at Glenview 

Park District camps. Journey through our 

camp brochure which offers something 

for every child age 3-17 with the perfect 

combination of fun, friendship, adventure 

and safety. 

Even children as young as two will benefit 

from socializing prior to preschool in 

a setting with mom or dad in You Are My 

Sunshine (YAMS) day camp. Slightly 

older kids will enjoy scavenger hunts and 

other games on special theme days like 

Olympics Day, Water Day, Carnival Day 

and more. Our eight week camps offer the 

best that summer offers like swimming, 

sports, arts and crafts, theatre, dance, 

Minecraft, claymation, outdoor games 

and farming. 

Glenview Park District staff provide 

an environment that encourages kids to 

step out of their comfort zone and build 

self-esteem. After the eight-week session 

ends on July 31, the fun keeps going for 

one more week with Summer Extension 

Camp. Seven to 12-year-olds had this option 

last year, but this year, we are opening 

it up to younger residents. It’s now 

available for children ages 5-12 with optional 

before and after care. 

Another new camp this year is Camp 

Glenview at Crowley Park for ages 11-14. 

It includes several field trips each week 

throughout the summer. Although the duration 

of camp is eight weeks, participants 

can sign up week to week. So, you pick 

the weeks you want to attend. 

We are entering our third year of Summer 

Enrichment Programs in partnership 

with Glenview School District 34. These 

talented teachers are excited as ever to offer 

classes at Attea Middle School including 

Math Madness, Hooked on Crochet, 

Tabletop Board Gaming, Safety City, Chess 

Clinic and Higher Level Basketball Skills. 

Speaking of sports, check out these

Camp for 5-6 year olds runs from 9 a.m.- 

2 p.m. They experience field trips once a 

week and will not visit the outdoor pools. 

We want to remind parents that early 

bird registration is the best way to go. Not 

only are the fees reduced, but families can 

also register with a deposit and pay in a 

series of installments. Those who register 

after March 15 must pay the regular fee 

and pay in full at time of registration.

The summer is a great 

time to improve. Our 

camps provide an enthusiastic, 

positive playing environment 

for students to 

practice their skills, learn 

how to compete and have 

fun as they do it. 

With more than 70 years 

combined teaching experience, 

Jerry and John Karzen 

return to captain multiple 

tennis and basketball 

offerings for children of 

all ages: 5-18 years old for 

tennis, 4-14 years old for 

basketball. 

Tennis campers start in 

our Little Sprouts program 

(ages 5-7), then move on 

to our tennis camp, (ages 

8-13) then to our tournament 

camp (ages 11-14), 

our high school tennis 

(ages 13-18) and finally 

high performance classes. 

Basketball campers start 

in our Little Dribblers program 

(ages 5-7), and then 

move on to the junior basketball 

(ages 8-14). 

We keep a four-to-one 

student-to-instructor ratio 

for tennis, a six-to-one ratio 

for basketball, and offer 

flexible weekly or daily 

sign-ups. The fun begins 

June 8 and runs through 

Aug. 14. Located at North 

Shore Racquet Club and 

the New Trier Northfield 

campus, students can learn 

tennis, basketball or both. 

We offer morning and 

afternoon tennis and basketball 

options, as well as 

full day combo camps. 

Jerry, the tennis director, 

played in Wimbledon, 

the French and U.S. Open, 

and has been the head New 

Trier Varsity Girls’ Tennis 

Coach for 17 of the last 20 

years. He has also been an 

assistant New Trier Boys 

Varsity Coach for the 

last 40 years. Jerry, along 

with his son Brett and his 

daughter Becky, has won 

over 50 USTA National 

Father/Son & Father/ 

Daughter Championships. 

Basketball Director John 

Karzen, a former University 

of Michigan and New 

Trier star athlete, has directed 

the basketball program 

for over 20 years and 

has grown it into one of the 

best in the area.

the Codeverse studio, using 

KidScript. KidScript 

is a real programming 

language that draws inspiration

ear training, rhythm, pitch, 

song structure, teamwork 

and close listening. We use 

a house backline of guitars, 

bass, drums, keyboards, and 

mics so instrument ownership 

is not necessary. This

showcase for families.

With the Beatles! Camp 

(July 13-17) 

Do you love everything 

about John, Paul, George,

how to build a chord 

with voices. We will provide 

a great introduction to 

the melodies, structure, and 

musicianship that made up

Green Day (Aug. 10-14) 

In honor of this longtime 

band that has carried 

the punk torch for new generations,

Gow offers rich opportunities for dyslexic students 

The Gow School is a college-prep 

boarding school 

for students, grades 6-12, 

with dyslexia and similar 

language-based learning 

disabilities. Focusing on 

small class sizes, 3 to 7 students

ratio, The Gow School

On five Mondays this 

summer, a group of young 

people will gather, and 

they will share a single 

thought: “Five days to 

showtime!” 

At the Music Theater 

Works Summer Workshops, 

performers ages 

8 to 13 gather for a week 

of rehearsals, singing, 

dancing and acting in 

preparation for a musical 

performance on Saturday 

fortheir friends and family. 

Each week is a separate 

session, and this year the 

shows include “The Wizard 

of Oz” (July 6-11), 

“Seussical” (July 13-18), 

“Legally Blonde” (July 

20-25), “Guys and Dolls” 

(July 27- Aug. 1) and 

“Cinderella” (Aug. 3-8). 

Putting together a show 

in five days makes for an 

exciting week, as all are 

assigned parts, learn their 

songs and practice their 

dances until everything is 

ready for the big show. It’s 

a lot of work, but that has 

never seemed to bother the 

workshop participants — 

they’re having too much 

fun. 

For many kids, the 

workshops give them their 

first taste of performing 

in musical theater. Many 

have gone in as absolute 

beginners and emerged as 

enthusiastic performers, 

eager for their next challenge. 

After last year’s workshops, 

one mother wrote 

to us that her daughter 

“was completely taken by 

her experiences in camp 

last summer. It unlocked a 

beautiful part of her and it 

has allowed her to blossom 

like nothing else she’s ever

“The rehearsal room is a 

safe place for all our kids 

to explore who they are,

discouragement,” Plotkin 

said. “As they grow as 

performers, they also grow 

as people. They step into 

someone else’s shoes, they 

make new best friends, 

they learn things they never 

thought possible before, 

we open them up to new 

experiences and new ways 

of thinking.”

American Youth Soccer 

Organization (AYSO) 

425 was founded when the 

recreational soccer leagues 

from Glencoe, Kenilworth, 

Northfield and Winnetka 

combined their youth soccer 

programs and joined AYSO. 

Today, more than 1,200 

children between the ages 

of 4-14 participate in the

AYSO 425 teams up with 

international and American 

professional soccer trainers 

to provide top notch soccer 

instruction for AYSO’s 

players and expand the 

pro-grams that AYSO 425 

offers. Throughout the year 

AYSO 425 provides professional

spring training programs 

for all ages, team coaching,
