This report presents the results from the<br />
fi eldwork performed by Kalmar County<br />
Museum in October and November 2009<br />
with purpose to care for a number of rockcarvings<br />
situated in the counties of Västervik,<br />
Oskarshamn, Mönsterås and Kalmar. The<br />
project was initiated by Länsstyrelsen in<br />
Kalmar and by the action plan suggested in the<br />
report “Hällristningarna vid Smålandskusten”<br />
(Petersson 2009). The aim of the project was to<br />
clean the slabs and to, be it necessary, cover<br />
them up to protect from wearing during the<br />
winter. The results show that the precautions<br />
and prior actions to protect the slabs had been<br />
working and many of the slabs were therefore in<br />
good condition. Contacts were also made with<br />
landowners and parties concerned to secure<br />
future care for the rock-carvings in question<br />
for this project. Results of these contacts show<br />
that a few local associations are interested in<br />
caring for the rock-carvings but in many cases,<br />
other solutions must be found.
