Statistical Image Analysis, 7,5 hp (MSA300)
The course provides a basic knowledge of how to
use statistical methods for image analysis. Methods
for acquiring, showing, filtering and segmentation
of images are briefly covered in the first part. Core
subjects in the course are pattern recognition and
spatial statistics applied to images. Practical computer
work is included, typically using Matlab. An
important part of the course is to carry through a
project in a small group, presenting the results at a
seminar and writing a project report.
Förkunskapskrav: The student is supposed to
have completed a basic course in mathematical statistics
worth of 7.5 credit points.
Urval: All eligible applicants who have applied
before the deadline will be granted a place.
Start: VT12, 50 %, dag, 2012-03-12 – 2012-05-27
Stochastic Calculus Part 1, 7,5 hp (MSA350)
Calculus, including integration, differentiation,
and differential equations are insufficient to model
stochastic phenomena like noise disturbances of
signals in engineering, uncertainty about future
stock prices in finance, and microscopic particle
movement in natural sciences. This course gives
a solid basic knowledge of stochastic analysis and
stochastic differential equations. Brownian motion
calculus. Elements of Levy processes and martingales.
Stochastic integrals.
Financial risk, 7,5 hp (MSA400)
Economic risks lead to catastrophic losses on a
regular basis. The course gives a short historical
introduction to the subject as well as an introduction
to some mathematical methods of economic
risk analysis. Special attention is paid to the decision
theory, actuarial mathematics and the concept
of "Value at Risk". The course consists of lectures,
exercises and projects.
Förkunskapskrav: Basic courses in linear algebra,
calculus and mathematical statistics.
Financial Time Series, 7,5 hp (MSA410)
This course introduces time-series techniques and
their application to the analysis and forecasting of
financial time-series. Emphasis is given to nonlinear
methods applied to high-frequency financial data.
The theoretical discourse is supplemented by handson
data analysis. Familiarity with a statistical software
analysis tool (like Matlab, Splus, R) is assumed.
at the level of MSG100 and of statistics at the
level of MSG200. Knowledge of stochastic processes
at the level of MSG400 is highly desirable.
designs in clinical trials. It includes: the clinical trial
protocol, sources of bias in clinical trials, blinding,
randomization, sample size calculation; design and
analysis of phase I, phase II, phase III and hybrid
Statistical Inference Principles, 7,5 hp (MSF100)
The course is intended for students of the second
year of master studies. This course takes an advanced
and rigorous look at mathematical statistics and
approaches to inference. In addition to covering
central concepts and models of statistics, differing
philosophical perspectives on scientific inference are
discussed and compared.
Förkunskapskrav: The prerequisite for the
course MSF100 is the equivalent of the course
MSG 200 Statistical inference or MSA840 Statistics
and data analysis plus at least two of the courses
(or similar) MSA100 Computer intensive
statistical methods MSA630 Survival analysis
MSA650 Linear mixed models for longitudinal data
MSA200 Multivariate statistical analysis MSA250
Experimental design MSA600 Statistics in genetics.
Urval: All eligible applicants who have applied
before the deadline will be granted a place.
Start: VT12, 50 %, dag, 2012-01-16 – 2012-03-11
Anm-kod: GU-21760
Experimental Design, 7,5 hp (MSA250)
In this course the basic philosophy behind statistical
inference is discussed. An important case is comparative
studies for two treatments where nuisance
factors can either be randomized or blocked. How
this is done in practice is of importance for the
analysis. More than two treatments are introduced
and treated using analysis of variance. We also study
regression analysis. Special emphasis is put on the
assumptions, which are essential for the planning
stage of the experiment.
Förkunskapskrav: Basic courses in linear algebra,
calculus and mathematical statistics.
Urval: All eligible applicants who have applied
before the deadline will be granted a place.
Start: VT12, 50 %, dag, 2012-01-16 – 2012-03-11
Ämnet miljövetenskap omfattar studier av miljöproblem,
deras orsaker, förlopp och effekter samt
möjliga motåtgärder. Ämnet är framförallt förankrat
i den naturvetenskapliga och tekniska forskartraditionen,
men har genom sin tvärvetenskapliga
karaktär starka anknytningar till andra ämnen som
ekonomi, statskunskap, juridik, humanekologi,
kulturvård etc. Kursutbudet omfattar dels kurser
ingående i det miljövetenskapliga utbildningsprogrammet,
dels mer fristående orienteringskurser,
