Yes! What can we do to find more energy! It mustn’t be dirty!<br />

It must be clean! It must be green! )<br />

Scene 2 – so what’s global warming<br />

Prof E: (Sticks power station picture on fuzzy board. Gets 2 people<br />

from audience to assist with holding up – (Prof)- COAL,<br />

OIL and GAS labels, and 2 CO 2<br />

blanket (fl imsy light material)<br />

holders) to be ready to hold a blanket of carbon dioxide<br />

over the earth,. and 1 globe holder to hold the globe - with<br />

maybe a sad face stuck on it.) We call this gas, carbon dioxide,<br />

CO 2<br />

rises up (waves hands in upward<br />

fl oating motion above power station picture) out of the chimneys<br />

at the power stations when we burn (points to children<br />

who hold up labels in turn.) – COAL, OIL, and GAS!<br />

Prof S: (-encourages the CO 2<br />

people to fl oat their CO 2<br />

blanket<br />

over the earth. She encourages Globe person to fan himself vigorously<br />

and look very unhappy! ) So you see, the blanket of<br />

Carbon Dioxide traps in the Sun’s heat a little bit. Not all of<br />

the heat that gets through to the earth can escape so easily!!<br />

This is called The Increased Greenhouse Effect, and it can<br />

increase the amount of global warming!<br />

Prof E: Now let’s see if we can slow this down a bit by<br />

SAVING SOME ENERGY other wise the earth’ll get too<br />

warm AND there’ll be no coal, oil and gas left at all!!<br />

Scene 3 – let’s save it!<br />

(No cost energy saving tips!)<br />

Prof S: (Puts HOUSE PICTURE on fuzzy board – or a child<br />

can draw a house.) Right then, Professor Energy is the Energy<br />

Saving person but she(he) might need another expert!<br />

We need 2 people. (Prof S prepares to choose 3 people.) Let’s<br />

have you to hold this (energy saving light bulb) when Professor<br />

Energy says, and you TWO to read out some important<br />

TIPS in a loud voice.<br />

Prof E: Right I’ve got the Energy Saving Tips here and these<br />

won’t cost you anything!! (Prof E sticks the Energy Saving<br />

Tips to the fuzzy board and helps everyone to read them out carefully<br />

and loudly whilst pointing at the words with a stick!)<br />

(Prof Solar points to the house on the fuzzy board/fl ipchart and<br />

its ”roof” with her pointer as appropriate!!)<br />

(The above is a starter idea only. The No Cost Energy Saving<br />

Tips can be used by teachers as a resource for drama ideas – in<br />

groups or as a class production) Use a QUIZ at the end to reinforce<br />

the message – if time allows! – The children could make<br />

up their own to ask the audience.)<br />

Scene 4 – solar<br />

Professor Solar places SUN picture on the fuzzy board, and<br />

SOLAR ENERGY label.<br />

(Prof ENERGY (encourages 1 person to hold the SUN and<br />

2 people to hold a solar panel saying – you’re the house with<br />

a solar panel on the roof)- and 1 person to hold the lightning<br />

bolts saying – )<br />

Prof S: (quietly, to chosen people) This stands for the<br />

electricity that’s made. You have to jig about energetically<br />

when the sunlight reaches the panel!! (2 people are given the<br />

LIGHT STREAMERS and told to dance between the SUN<br />

and the SOLAR POWERED HOUSE.)<br />

Prof S: (dramatically, waving arms about….) So....... the<br />

sunlight shines brightly from the SUN to the solar panel<br />

on the house roof, as soon as the LIGHT gets to the..........<br />

SOLAR PANEL..then ......ELECTRICITY is made!!<br />

HOORAY! This is so exciting!!<br />

AND ……. did you know this amazing fact……that<br />

the sun is where all our energy comes from – so let’s use it,<br />

it’s free energy!<br />
