Personality Dimensions ® brings Personality Temperament Theory into the 21st century.

It builds on research conducted in Canada for over three decades, and the foundations

established by the work of Carl Jung, David Keirsey, Linda Berens, as well as a history of

Temperament that spans 25 centuries. Most resources are now available digitally, allowing workshops to be

hosted remotely, meaning your world as a Personality Dimensions ® Facilitator just got a whole lot bigger!

Everyone is different... we come in all varieties and understanding our values, strengths, joys and

stressors and those of everyone we interact with provides a great foundation for communication. Knowing

some of the ways people are different assures us that we are comfortable in our own uniqueness and that

we aren’t alone in some of our idiosyncrasies.

Translating complex personality theory into every day language, Personality Dimensions ® creates a

framework for understanding and helping individuals recognize temperament patterns that they are

comfortable with and those of people that they know. But it is not about putting people into a box.

Identifying differences and similarities through Personality Dimensions ® doesn’t determine our behaviour

– we make those choices. We may be strongly inclined to act in certain ways but we each can decide how

we will behave.

Most people find the experience of discovering their natural inclinations to be both very invigorating and

self-affirming. It can also be a real eye-opening experience! Understanding one’s natural tendencies can

let you consciously change your behaviours without changing who you are. It will give you the energy

and confidence to develop beyond your natural self.

In order to use Personality Dimensions ® individuals must first become a Certified Personality

Dimensions ® Trainer. Since being published in 2003, over 1,000,000 people world wide have

experienced a Personality Dimensions ® workshop. The Certified Trainer (Level I) Qualifying

Program is an opportunity for facilitators to add a new dimension to their facilitator toolkit.

During this 21 hour course you will experience and learn how to deliver Personality

Dimensions ® workshops for diverse groups and topics. You will learn about the historical

and practical developments in temperament, as well as the importance of each component

of a Personality Dimensions ® workshop and the ethical considerations for using the model

appropriately. Experiencing both classroom and hands-on interactive learning you will:

participate in activities typically used in a workshop; learn practical skills and knowledge

of adult learning for facilitators; create and customize your own Personality Dimensions ®

introductory workshop; and learn about the various Personality Dimensions ® products

available, and their appropriate uses.

Hosting a virtual workshop, or just strapped for time when facilitating face-to-face? Have your clients

take the assessment ahead of time and you can spend more time on the interpersonal components of

the program and still have time to address the specific applications to better meet your client’s needs.

Working with clients long-distance? PD-Online lets them take the assessment in preparation for your

session. PD-Online is both convenient and cost effective and you are only charged when you download a

recognizing the needs, how to gain the cooperation, the likes, and what causes problems for team

The 24 page PD-Online Professional Report features extended descriptions on the needs and

values, strengths, and potential challenges of each colour preference and a description of each

preference at work, both as a leader and as an employee. There are also tips for working with

each colour preference – sections on stressors, what the stressed person looks like and ways they

can overcome stress. Detailed descriptions of both Introverts and Extraverts are also included

The PD-Online Wellness Report is an essential part of a wellbeing program. This 38 page

personalized report outlines the needs and values, strengths and the take on wellness for each

of the four personality dimensions. It goes into further detail by looking at six wellness factors –

physical, intellectual, spiritual, work, emotional and social. Each section explores the approach,

how Introverts & Extraverts may differ, as well as challenges and tips for improving personal

wellness.

Written by the authors of Colour Savvy (page 19) and Unlocking your Personality (page 18),

Anne Bulstrode and Susan Geary, the PD-Online Wellness Report was created with online

learning in mind. The sections are laid out in a modular fashion, and can be explored individually.

PD-Online Leadership Report

Increasingly, Personality Dimensions ® is being integrated into large and small businesses, community

services organizations and a wide range of other organizations and networks. Personality Dimensions ®

Facilitators have been asking for a tool to help them work specifically with the leaders – and developing

leaders – of these groups.

Sandra Summerhayes has shared her considerable experience working with leaders in industry in

developing the Personality Dimensions ® Leadership Report.

Each report is broken down by primary colour preference and provides a general overview of that

dimension as well as examining their leadership style, strengths, contributions to the leadership team.

It also discusses potential challenges, how that dimension prefers to communicate and motivate their

team. The final sections for each dimension looks at how that dimension prefers feedback, expressions

of appreciation and performance appraisals and, lastly, how to delegate to that dimension.

PD Basics Online

PD Basics was created with lower English literacy skills in mind. It has been painstakingly edited,

reviewed, reedited, and reviewed many times over to bring it to a reasonable and consistent grade level.

It falls somewhere between a grade 4-5 on the Flesch–Kincaid readability test. It uses the same concepts,

and some of the same terminology as the original Personality Dimensions ® assessment, but removes the

colloquialisms, and slang terms that can be difficult to understand for adults who are learning English, or

who have lower literacy skills.

PD Basics Profile Report

The PD Basics Profile Report is a comprehensive 8 page portrait that captures your clients’

preferences. PD Basics Online has all the same parts as the paper-based assessment, but with

four additional sections that look at getting along with the four personalities, what causes problems

for each preference, how to reward each of the personalities and descriptions of preferred work

environments.

PD for Youth Online

The PD for Youth Online was designed to be used with youth between the ages of 13 and 25. The content

is contextually different from the adult resources. It is paired with specific PD for Youth Dimension Cards

looking at Life Values, Learning, With Friends and Family, as well as an optional At Work Card. PD for

Youth uses the standard Picture Cards, in addition to youth versions of the Traits and Characteristics

and Introversion/Extraversion Quiz. PD for Youth Online assessments pair perfectly with the PD for

Youth Foundations Facilitator Guide and it’s accompanying PowerPoint ® and handouts (see page 8).

PD for Youth Profile Report

The PD for Youth Profile Report better speaks to teenagers in high school as well as young

adults. It expands upon the paper-based assessment and features five additional sections looking

at getting along with the four personalities, what causes problems for each preference, how to

reward each dimension and descriptions of both preferred learning and work environments.

Career Dimensions Online

Unlike many career assessment instruments, Career Dimensions explores the actual work environment in

which clients are most comfortable by examining a variety of areas, including: the natural talents brought to work,

values, major job stressors, work philosophy and definition of success. This easy-to-understand survey is based

on the Personality Dimensions ® system and draws on the research and development that created that model.

Career Dimensions Report

The personalized 29 page report includes lists of suggested occupations with updated 5-figure

NOC codes, offering 145 NOC units for each of the four dimensions, and three job examples for

each unit. It finishes with a section for setting goals and creating the next steps along the career

path. The lists of suggested occupations were compiled based on a wealth of previously published

materials on type and temperament work preferences and the population statistics that have

been compiled since the publication of Personality Dimensions ® . A very user friendly assessment

designed for use wherever a quick, effective, yet inexpensive work place assessment will enhance

the job search process, e.g. job search programs, youth employment programs as well as career

and co-op offices.

Career Dimensions Basics Online

Retirement Dimensions Online

Retirement Dimensions Online helps participants expand their horizons through exploring their values,

strengths, concerns, interests and relationship preferences as well as their philosophical views and

develops those preferences into profiles of four dimensions. It encourages participants to explore each of

the components that make up their own personality blend and helps participants gain an understanding

and appreciation for others. It pairs well with the Retirement Dimensions Toolkit (see page 14).

PD Basics

PD Basics is designed to meet two needs: to be easily interpreted by individuals working in a second

language, and for working with those with limited reading ability. PD Basics has also been successfully

field-tested with unemployed youth in the 16-24 age bracket and lower functioning adults. The concepts

presented are more easily understood and every effort has been made to reduce and/or eliminate

problematic idioms.

The reusable PD Basics Dimension Cards are contextually the same as the Personality Dimensions ®

(Adult Classic) Dimension Cards but written at a lower reading level and may be more accessible for

some workshop participants. Personality Dimensions ® and PD Basics are almost identical looking, and

can be used by different participants within the same workshop.

PD Basics is written at a Grade 4-5 reading level and is available in both in Canadian English and

Canadian French.

Picture Cards

Updated in 2021, the Picture Cards have a fresh new look! No longer will your participants be

marveling at the ancient brick phone, heavy eye-shadow, or mile-wide neck tie. We also fixed

the backwards keyboard on the Resourceful Orange card. It only took 18 years for anyone to

spot that error! All of the components and their symbolism still mirror the descriptions in the PD

Manual, with the placement being true to the original design as well. The updated Picture Cards

do not include any written word on either side and can be used with any version, or language, of

Personality Dimensions ® assessments.

The Picture Cards were designed as visual representations of various characteristics of each of the

of the four dimensions. The Introverted/Extraverted aspects and the appeal of the temperaments

by each gender were also considered in the development. The reusable Picture Cards include one

picture card for each of the four Personality Dimensions ® on a perforated sheet.

Dimension Cards

Like the Picture Cards, the Dimension Cards have been given a face-lift. The written words on each

card is the same as the previous version, but the design has been updated and ties in with the updated

look of the PD PowerPoint ® presentation. (Note: Only the English cards have been updated.)

All reusable Dimension Cards cover interests, needs, values, behaviours, misconceptions and actual

intentions for each of the four dimensions. The wording on each card was carefully balanced; the number

of descriptive words on each card is roughly equal, enabling readers to make fair and balanced choices.

Life Values Cards - Important to any group or objective because they examine the participants’

personal values which carry into all aspects of their lives.

Relationships Cards - Useful as participants explore their needs and expectations in personal

relationships.

In Communications Cards - Crucial when exploring the participants’ preferred communication styles.

At Work Cards - Helpful for encouraging participants to explore benefits to work environments and

work styles.

In Conflict Cards - Beneficial for understanding the conflict styles unique to each of the four dimensions.

PD @ School

The PD @ School site license contains a PowerPoint ® that provides the basis for a workshop for youth

ages 13+. Unlike the adult materials, PD @ School has been tailored to suit the needs and experiences for

this age group, encouraging them to explore their values and how they see themselves at school and with

their friends and family. Facilitators can adapt the content of this presentation to suit the direction and time

frame that they need to work effectively with their student group. The system also contains reproducible

masters for the consumable components of the assessment, and a site license for the purchasing school.

PD @ School products are only available for purchase by schools, school boards, and departments of
