Globalization and Its Effects on Nation-State Ekrem Yaşar AKÇAY<br />

concept of time was come out according to place where societies lived. In addition, ın this era<br />

nobody needed to technology. Within the globalization, concepts of time and place became<br />

common usage field of all of the world society.(Giddens, 2000, p. 153)<br />

However, Alvin Toffler, also examined the globalization differently. He implied that<br />

globalization occured with 3 waves. That is;<br />

• Agrarian Society<br />

• Industrial Society<br />

• Infırmation Society (Toffler, 1996, p. 41).<br />

In the first wave, people intereseted in agriculture to survival. Agriculture was dominant<br />

ın economy. In this era, globalization began to occure. Because, ownership of land brought to<br />

ownership of assets. But with in some developments such as economic, technologic, agrarian<br />

society weaked and ındustrial society occured.<br />

Within the industrial society that has been second wave, developments ın the ındustry<br />

effected to social, economic, politic fields. In here, aim of people became not only getting a<br />

profit but also increasing it. Thereore ın this era, system of company lied to foundation. This<br />

situation caused the developing of private sector and technology.<br />

In addition, roles and status of people began to change. Industrial people were replaced<br />

to agrarian people. In the result of this situation, specialization occured. Thinking of the<br />

increasing to profit and market demand caused that capitalist states went towards the other states<br />

and thus colonialism /imperialism occured.<br />

Howeever, ın this era, in 1648, Westphalia Treaty signed and nation-states occured and<br />

replaced to empire. The other development of this era was French Revolution in 1789 and<br />

establishing of capitalist system. Actually, this system between 1910 to 1945, faced with<br />

process of crisis, some causes such as First World War, Great Debate in 1929, unemployment.<br />

To prevent to crisis, some new politics such as Keynessian began to imply. But ın 1970’s<br />

because of some changes on the system of world, monetary, petrollian crisis and Neo-Liberal<br />

idea, Keynessian Politics were defected. This situation was also bankrupted to Taylorist/Fordist<br />

Politics.<br />
