DEMOCRATIC PEACE:<br />

IDEALISM AND MORAL COMPROMISES<br />

Abstract:<br />

The article deals with Theory of Democratic Peace, including an analytic approach<br />

to its application in foreign policy during the last few decades. Having<br />

considered the basic assumptions on peace between democratic states, author<br />

focuses on the role this theory had in International Relations. Opinion of the<br />

author is that this theory has been widely used as legitimizing expedient for<br />

certain non-peaceful actions. Author of this article analyses to which extent<br />

have the ideals proclaimed in the Theory of Democratic Peace, but also in related<br />

theories and disciplines, contributed to making of the compromises in<br />

foreign policy actions, in order to achieve those ideals.<br />
