22 NIKOLA ĐURIĆ Nikola Đurić DEMOCRATIC PEACE: IDEALISM AND MORAL COMPROMISES Abstract: The article deals with Theory of Democratic Peace, including an analytic approach to its application in foreign policy during the last few decades. Having considered the basic assumptions on peace between democratic states, author focuses on the role this theory had in International Relations. Opinion of the author is that this theory has been widely used as legitimizing expedient for certain non-peaceful actions. Author of this article analyses to which extent have the ideals proclaimed in the Theory of Democratic Peace, but also in related theories and disciplines, contributed to making of the compromises in foreign policy actions, in order to achieve those ideals.
