ESTONIAN-X DICTIONARY AND GRAMMARÜlle ViksInstitute of the <strong>Estonian</strong> LanguageProblems connected with representation of grammatical <strong>in</strong>formation <strong>in</strong> a bil<strong>in</strong>gualdictionary are discussed. The focus lies on the <strong>Estonian</strong>-X dictionary (EXS), its place<strong>in</strong> dictionary typology and consequent requirements. The EXS is a universal lexicogrammaticaldatabase enabl<strong>in</strong>g to generate the electronic basis for an arbitrarybil<strong>in</strong>gual dictionary, provid<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Estonian</strong> as the sou1rce language ready-made <strong>in</strong> astandard format. It is designed to present grammatical <strong>in</strong>formation as well structuredas possible, tapp<strong>in</strong>g various levels of language description from phonology tosemantics; data selection and presentation are based on relations of dictionary vs.grammar. The EXS be<strong>in</strong>g a metalevel database its format should be exible enoughto be <strong>in</strong>dependent of the target language, type and design of the output dictionary.
