Where Do You
See Yourself
In 10 Years?
By Mason Russell
The following students have
committed to play a sport at
the college level.
2016Senior Athletes
Senior Austin Deberry
4
Seniors in the class of 2016
have worked hard and long
during their four years at
Brooke Point. At graduation, the
valedictorian and salutatorian
are recognized for their academic
accomplishments. Meanwhile,
other students have worked
equally as hard throughout
their four years and deserve
acknowledgement. Graduating
seniors such as Joe Nelson,
Ricardo Acosta, and Amanda
Young are leaving BP with the
title of academic
honors under their
belts.
These students
have done many
different things to achieve
success. Senior Ricardo Acosta
says that paying attention is one
of his biggest tactics to stay at
the top. “I do most of my learning
in the class room,” Acosta states,
“I try to always make sure I am
paying attention to what the
teacher is saying.” Completing
and turning in work on time is
how senior Joe Nelson keeps his
grades up. He comments, “It’s
not anything that crazy, it’s just
getting your work in on time,
studying for tests. It’s a lot
of little things.”
Many of these students’
accomplishments come
from taking weighted
classes, participating in
extracurricular activities, and
working toward their futures.
Each student has their own
reasons for working so hard.
Senior Amanda Young mentions,
“My parents are really supportive
of me working hard. I also stay
motivated by being around other
people who are doing the same
thing, and just seeing it pay
off.” Nelson shared that his will
to succeed, as well as getting
into college encouraged him to
accomplish so much. Acosta’s
competitiveness drove him to
work hard and do his best. “I have
high standards for myself, I feel
satisfied when I get good grades,”
Acosta added.
When students graduate, their
hard work will not go unnoticed,
as it will take them further in life
and lead them to success.
Letter from
the Editor
Someone once
asked me, “What is
journalism exactly?”
Over the course of four years, I have learned that journalism
is simply a group of students who work together to write
about the news for the student body, staff members, and
even parents. Our class meets for one block period, writes
news articles, and gets involved with the current events of
Brooke Point High School. But that’s not my favorite part;
journalism to me is about the stress and pride in the final
product. Journalism is sharing food with the people sitting
around you. Journalism is a class that I look forward to every
day because I know that the people and the environment
is welcoming. So, “What is journalism exactly?” It’s exactly
where one student can learn responsibility, have fun, develop
new friendships, laugh a lot, and most importantly, feel part
of a family.
As Editor in Chief, this school year has been stressful, to
say the least, but journalism has always been something that
brings me joy. The 2015-2016 school year wouldn’t have been
possible without the help of Regan Flieg, who will soon be
Editor in Chief. I couldn’t possibly think of anyone more
hardworking and deserving of such an honorable role than
Regan. Thank you to Julie Gazzoli, who has stayed behind the
scenes with little recognition, but deserves endless praise for
all of her hard work. A big thank you to Ms. Bakum, whom I
owe the Hawkeye’s success to. She was thrown into the job of
journalism advisor, and has done so with impeccable grace.
Thank you to my parents who continuously support all my
endeavors.
