<strong>unit</strong> 5 <strong>Methodology</strong> -- Purpose The <strong>Methodology</strong> describes how you plan to conduct your research study so that it<br />

answers your research questions. This section explains how you will gather your data, your sample population, how you<br />

will analyze your data, and how you will ensure that the data is valid and reliable. Instructions Please select one of the<br />

following exercises that coincides with your design and post your work to the Discussion 2. Quantitative Methods Design<br />

a plan for the procedures to be used in a survey study. Be sure to review the checklist included in this <strong>unit</strong>s Reading<br />

Assignment (Table 8.1) to determine if all of the components have been addressed. Or Design a plan for procedures for<br />

an experimental study. Be sure to review the checklist included in this <strong>unit</strong>?s Reading Assignment (Table 8.4) to<br />

determine if all of the components have been addressed. Qualitative Procedures Write a plan for the procedure to be<br />

used in your qualitative study. Include the research strategy you plan to use, the types of data to be collected, the steps<br />

that you plan to take to analyze this data. Be sure to review the checklist included in this <strong>unit</strong>'s Reading Assignment<br />

(Tables 9.1 and 9.2) to determine the comprehensiveness of your plan. Mixed Methods Write a plan for the procedure to<br />

be used in your mixed-methods study. Include the rationale for the research specific strategy that you plan to use,<br />

including the types of data to be collected and the steps that you plan to take to analyze this data. Be sure to review the<br />

checklist included in this <strong>unit</strong>?s Reading Assignment (Table 10.1) to determine the comprehensiveness of your plan. As<br />

you see classmates posting,, offer direct feedback relative to their entries reflective of the standard peer review<br />

questions. Please review at least two classmates' posts, and try to select classmates who have not received peer<br />

feedback this <strong>unit</strong>. Unit 5 Peer Review Receiving valuable feedback provides an opport<strong>unit</strong>y to learn from others and<br />

gather multiple perspectives on your project. The peer review process is evident in many organizations in which projects<br />

are team-based or peer-reviewed. As a member of a team, you should provide feedback in a positive, constructive<br />

manner. It is quite permissible to disagree with a colleague?s perspective as long as the exchange is respectful and<br />

professional. When reviewing your colleagues posts, please offer feedback, suggestions, questions, and/or personal<br />

examples based on the following points: Clarification: Is the approach practical. Does it make sense? Justification: Does<br />

the entry include adequate detail to justify the direction being taken? Rationale: Have sufficient references been included<br />

to support the direction being adopted? Relevance: Do you have (or have you heard of) similar experiences that you can<br />

share? Recommendations: Do you have suggestions or advice that you would offer? This Discussion 2 addresses the<br />

following <strong>unit</strong> learning outcomes: Construct a protocol to develop a quantitative, qualitative, or mixed method study.<br />

Prepare a research prospectus for a research study. It also addresses the course outcome: IX540-4: Plan a research<br />

proposal based on the elements and principles of educational research. Points and Rubric This Assignment is worth 80<br />

points, and the rubric that will be used to grade your Assignment is available from the Grading Rubric page under<br />

Course Home. Submitting Your Assignment Select the Discussion 2 link on the left to access the <strong>unit</strong> Discussion 2 and<br />
