UNIT 5 Technology to Support ADA and Meeting NETS Standards ## The Discussions in this course include several
components. You may not be able to address all of these questions in a single post. You will need to plan to return to
the Discussion several times during the week to weigh in on the questions. Please make sure you do so as part of both
original posts as well as in replies to your classmates. Remember that your grade for the Discussion Board comprises
both original postings and your contributions through replies. Both are great places to introduce new information,
opinions, links, etc.; and both are equally important to your grade. Your initial posts to both instructor-led responses
should contain a minimum of two to three peer-reviewed references. A minimum of one follow-up post should contain
one to two references. This unit's Discussion focuses on two issues that instructional technologists are often called on to
help address in the school setting. The Discussion addresses the use of assistive technology in the classroom and
implementing technology standards to help raise teacher and student competencies in working with technology. Many
students individualized education programs (IEPs) call for assistive technologies to enable a learner to continue to work
in a general education classroom if possible. As you research assistive technologies in your Discussion 2 this week,
select one physical disability that relies heavily on technology in the classroom. Describe the assistive technology and
the challenges that the learner may encounter trying to use it in the general education classroom environment. As an
instructional technologist, what is your role in supporting the assistive technology? The ISTE Standards are the
standards for learning, teaching, and leading in the digital age and are widely recognized and adopted worldwide. The
series of ISTE Standards work together to transform education. Choose one standard from the Teachers Standards and
one from the Administrator Standards that you feel are critical to supporting assistive technology (AT) in the classroom
and explain why you believe their impact is so important to the successful implementation of AT in the classroom.
Standards for Teachers (http://www.iste.org/standards/standards-for-teachers) Standards for Administrators
(http://www.iste.org/standards/standards-for-administrators) When you respond to your classmates, come up with
solutions that address the challenges posed. The two Unit 5 Discussions address the following unit outcomes: Identify
the role of the instructional technologist in supporting students with disabilities. Identify support organizations to network
or partner with that support technology infrastructure in education. Compare a learning organization to the ISTE
Standards. It also addresses the following course outcome: IX560-3: Assess the value of shared technology resources
for all stakeholders in the educational environment. Points and Rubric This Discussion is worth 50 points, and the rubric
that will be used to grade your Discussion participation is available from the Grading Rubrics page under Course Home.
Remember to: 1. Participate actively throughout the entire week. 2. Give constructive feedback and respond to
questions from your classmates and instructor. 3. Contribute in a way that adds to the Discussion and moves it forward
in an original fashion. Use the course content and additional readings to inform your posts and responses. Please be
sure to use proper APA style when citing your references.
