Maranui FM School Radio Re-Launch
Tēnā koutou – Welcome:
A big welcome to Samuel Jones and Jay Patel who have joined our New
Entrants during the past week. We have now welcomed 54 new
students since the start of the year, and our total roll currently stands at
390. This is five students less that at the same time last year.

Community Newsletter – more volunteers required please:
As mentioned last week, we look forward to re-starting publication of our
popular Community Newsletter over coming weeks. Thank you to those
families who have offered to assist with delivery. We still require further
volunteers to make sure that our local distribution area can be covered.
Please see Kathy, or drop her a note, if you can help us to deliver
newsletters in your street.
Before School Supervision:
Whilst we are not experiencing any problems currently, parents are
reminded that we do not provide formal supervision of children before
school in the morning. This means that we don’t have teachers on a
playground duty roster at this time. Instead, staff members are busy
making preparations for the day. Children can come into classrooms
and also prepare for the day when the doors are open.

School Cross Country Next Week:
All Middle and Senior students (Yrs 3-6) will participate in our annual
School Cross Country at Lyall Bay beach next week. Children should
come to school with appropriate running gear. We will hold this event on
the first fine afternoon, commencing at 1.30pm. Parents are welcome to
come along and support us. If unsure whether it is on, please select our
cancellation message line by selecting option 2 on our school number.
Emergency Contact Update – Very Important Action:
A big thanks to all families who took time recently to update their
emergency contact information so that we can set up a group text
messaging system over coming weeks. It is not too late to add your
details if you have not already done so. If you still have the original
green form that was sent home with your child’s name on it, please fill
this in and return it. Alternatively, please see Kathy at our office.

Chicken-Pox:
There appears to be rumours circulating that chicken-pox are rife in the
school at present. This is NOT the case. We are aware of just one
current case in our New Entrants.
Netball News:
Eastern Zone Netball Tomorrow: Despite another patchy weather
forecast, our teams are very much looking forward to the Eastern Zone
Netball Tournament at the Hataitai Courts tomorrow. Their bus will
leave school at 9am and return around 2pm. Children should come to
school prepared to play even if the weather is doubtful, as a
postponement decision may be made close to departure time.
ANZ Netball Grant Scheme – Please Vote for Us EVERY DAY:
As mentioned last week, we have applied for a share of the huge
$100,000 offered by ANZ to support netball this season. Applications
with the most votes will win. Currently we have 55 votes, up from just 15
last Tuesday. When you locate our school (now on about page 19 when
you request the list on “votes”) you will be prompted to register your
details before your vote will count. Then you can vote every day and our
total will rise quickly!! Go to

Research Project Invitation – Year 6 students:
Accompanying today’s newsletter for Year 6 students is a special letter
from Victoria University inviting families to participate in a special
research project focusing on “How young people recall emotional
experiences”. This research will take place at school in group settings at
a time convenient to the class teacher. If you are happy for your child to
participate, please complete the attached consent form and return it
to school by this Friday 18 May.
Adult Volunteers Required – New Entrant classes:
We would like some willing volunteers to assist our New Entrant children
with their early literacy learning. Parents, grandparents, or family friends
welcome. Please see Jan Cross (Room 1) if you can assist. She will
discuss possible times and any training requirements.
Entertainment Books:
If you are still holding an Entertainment Book, we trust that you have
now had time to have had a good look at all of the wonderful offers.
Please now either, send your $60 payment to school, or simply return to
book in good condition. Thanks to all who have purchased the book.
