Historic Revisionism, Hate Speech and Violence Against Serbs in 2016
/ 137
sentatives of the extreme political right including the then president of
hsp as, Pero Ćorić and Ivan Tepeš, MPs Željko Glasnović and Miro Bulj
and president of the Zadar hdz branch, Joso Nekić. Journalist Velimir
Bujanec and the president of the a-hsp party, Dražen Keleminec, were
also present. But it was Culture Minister Hasanbegović who stole the
highlights by taking a picture of himself with four men holding an Ustasha
flag with the inscription “FrankfUrt”, where the letter “U” was a
symbol of the Ustasha movement.
/1.5.8. Celebration of the anniversary of Operation Storm in Knin
Celebration of the Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day in Knin
on August 5 was an occasion to display a number of Ustasha insignia,
block the main street and sing Ustasha songs such as Here is the dawn,
here is the day 36 and Thick fog has descended 37 . Also, after intoning the
national anthem, placing the wreaths and praying before the monument
dedicated to Operation Storm, Ivica Glavota, a representative of
war veterans, held a speech in which he said: “I apologize to you people
that we did not finish the job and that you now have to put up with shit
in this country”. But what really grabbed the public attention was the
news that a group of young women and men had torched the flag of
the Republic of Serbia. 38
/1.5.9. Activity of Croatian National Ethics Tribunal
The Croatian National Ethics Tribunal continued with its public gatherings
in 2016. This association is a gathering of conservative former
politicians, historians and war veterans who every few months make a
list of “enemies of Croatia” (members of the national minorities, liberal
ngos, George Soros etc).
On March 5, which was the 19 th anniversary of the establishment of the
sdss party, the Tribunal held a meeting in Vukovar and passed an “ethical
verdict” against Vojislav Stanimirović, the sdss president, based on
“a well-founded suspicion that he had committed many criminal acts
during the Homeland War”. The State Prosecution had repeatedly processed
and rejected such accusations in the past.
On September 18, the Tribunal’s agenda focused on Milorad Pupovac,
who had already been “condemned” tree years earlier. “Astonished by
his recent increasingly aggressive anti-Croatian behaviour” after the
early parliamentary election, the Tribunal this time condemned his “aggressive
greater-Serbian behaviour”, declared him a persona non grata
