2nd Corfu International Festival & Choir Competition September 12 - 16, 2018 Corfu, Greece Sing on the Green Island! Supported by the Corfu Choir Union, the "2nd Corfu International Festival & Choir Competition" will bring choral singers from all over the world to the capital of the Ionian Islands in 2018 again. Corfu is the greenest island in Greece. Apart from the beautiful bays, long beaches and impressive cliffs, the roughly 600 square kilometer island is covered with olive groves. The Mediterranean flair of the island has always attracted millions of tourists – also Empress Elisabeth spent the possibly even happiest years of her life in Corfu. The historic city center of Corfu was added to the UNESCO world cultural heritage list in 2007. Already during ancient and later on medieval times this island was exposed to the influence of different cultures, especially of the republic of Venice, which mingled with Greek-orthodox traditions and led to the independent culture visible nowadays. https://corfu.interkultur.com

Dear Friends of Choral Singing,<br />
After our very successful start in the year 2016, it is a particular pleasure for me to be able to<br />
announce the 2 nd <strong>Corfu</strong> International Festival & Choir Competition already today. A total of 37<br />
choirs from 20 nations have registered for this event, and I feel very pleased to welcome you all<br />
to <strong>Corfu</strong>. In particular, we are extraordinarily happy to see that choirs even from as far as Argentina,<br />
Ecuador, Thailand and China are traveling to <strong>Corfu</strong> to join this festival of choral music<br />
and to enthuse and delight everybody with their colorful folklore programs.<br />
Indeed, quite a varied festival of choral music is awaiting you in the UNESCO World Heritage<br />
City! There is our choir parade that will lead you right through the streets of the old downtown<br />
that are so full of atmosphere. There is the legendary vitality and high spirits of our Greek hosts<br />
that are for sure to catch on with the participants in no time at all. In addition to the competitions<br />
held in the various categories, we can offer to you, as true highlights, the concerts taking<br />
place in the Old Fortress and several other historical locations. And not to forget the Grand Prize<br />
Competition that will see the best choirs of the competition, an outstanding event waited for<br />
with bated breath by everyone.<br />
Our INTERKULTUR non-profit organization is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Over<br />
the last 30 years, we have organized more than 200 international events, bringing together<br />
thousands of choirs from all over the world. The very fact that our World Choir Games - the<br />
world’s largest international choir competition - took place on the African continent for the<br />
first time ever this year, speaks for the world-spanning idea INTERKULTUR has adopted as its<br />
motto: ”Singing together brings nations together“. With this in mind, my dear friends from near<br />
and far, I wish you an enjoyable stay and days shared and united in singing together that may<br />
remain in your memory for a long time.<br />
