Enjoy stunning views from island lookout points
Itineraries
I have: No time The ultimate way to see the island is an exciting ride
on the back of a trike with the wind in your hair and views all around. Whether
you prefer a relaxed cruise or an exhilarating blast, it’s a unique and fun way to
tour Great Barrier Island. Stop for a coffee at Claris before heading south to the
stunning east coast beaches of Kaitoke and Medlands to check out the surf.
Walk the length of the beautiful golden beaches or dive straight into the waves
armed with your surfboard.
I have: A Bit of time Must-see attractions on Great Barrier include
the simply spectacular views from the Windy Canyon Lookout and a soak in the
Kaitoke Hot Springs. The Windy Canyon Lookout walk takes around 15 minutes
and has a steep section through rock bluffs, while the 45 minute walk to Kaitoke
Hot Springs is an easy stroll to a series of relaxing hot pools.
I have: PleNty of time On the west coast lies Port FitzRoy, a boating
mecca and the starting point for the kauri dam track to Mount Hobson. Take the
time to visit Glenfern Sanctuary, a wildlife habitat where you can take a guided
walk and meet some of New Zealand’s endangered species such as the kaka,
brown teal and chevron skink. Kayaking offers one of the best ways to discover
the wild natural beauty of the island’s coves, bays, inlets and wildlife. Hire a
kayak or take a guided kayak tour and discover the hidden secrets on the island
with the safety of a certified guide.
