Volunteer Focus
WHY NOT VOLUNTEER?
Last year, 192 volunteers provided 9,277 community service hours to Northland, an increase of 752 hours over 2015.
The tremendous value of our volunteers cannot be over-stated. Spring and fall 2016 used book sales were successful due to the efforts of
95 volunteers who served 405 hours from set up to tear down. A commitment to two-hour weekly shifts of 32 volunteers in the Book Nook
donated 3,172 hours which is 34% of all 2016 volunteer hours.
33 student volunteers provided 534 hours for the Children’s Summer Reading that attracted over 2,000 children attending 48 programs.
Throughout the year, 4 student volunteers and 12 adult volunteers assisted in multiple tasks that enabled Technical Services staff to process a
monthly range of 1,600-2,000 items including new printed and audio books, CD’s and DVD’s, magazines and paperbacks.
WHY VOLUNTEER? - Stacey S. volunteers in multiple capacities to “give back to NPL.”
- Lynne F. finds the library to be a very peaceful place and volunteers because it is her way of saying thanks for the enjoyment/knowledge she
has received from the many books she has read. We need you! Visit our website to find out how you can volunteer.
TASTY TRUCKS @ NORTHLAND
Thursdays make us hungry! Tasty Trucks @ Northland continues to draw crowds every
first and third Thursday. In March, we’ll welcome some favorite food trucks. Pgh Crepes
and Mission Mahi arrive on March 2, bringing their phenomenal fish tacos, savory crepes
and sweet treats.
On March 16, Pgh Po Boy and the Pittsburgh Pierogi Truck roll up to
the curb to send your taste buds on a culinary trip spanning Cajun
country and the Polish homeland with traditional favorites from gumbo to halushki!
Look for the food trucks in our upper parking lot from noon until 6pm (as supplies last,
accepting most major credit cards). Be sure to subscribe for email alerts for up-to-date
information.
