1.1 Geography and Population<br />
<strong>Austria</strong> covers an area of 83,878 square kilometres with a population of 8,375,290 residents, (as of<br />
1 st of January 2010) <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g 895,144 foreign citizens (11% of total population).<br />
Vienna is the most densely populated prov<strong>in</strong>ce of <strong>Austria</strong> with 4,097 residents per square kilometre;<br />
Tyrol is the least densely populated prov<strong>in</strong>ce with 56 <strong>in</strong>habitants per square kilometre (population as<br />
of 1 st of January 2010). The average newborn life expectancy <strong>in</strong> 2009 is 80 years.<br />
<strong>Austria</strong> is bordered by Switzerland, Liechtenste<strong>in</strong>, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary,<br />
Slovenia and Italy.<br />
