TO THE
MEETING

It will include the opportunity to take your
car on the track for a spin. Should be a
blast.
The new year is off to a great start for the
club. Membership is holding steady, the
treasury is very healthy and there are quite a
few runs scheduled.
A house full of club members enjoyed the
Super Bowl at Andy and Connie Anderson’s
home. The food, drink and fellowship were
all in abundance. Mike and Lynne Henenfent
put on a run February 5 th to Kingsburg for
dinner and the Jeremy “Elvis” Pearce show.
The turnout was great and the show, venue
and food were first class. Last Saturday Keith
and Debbie Garrison put on a run to Di
Cicco’s restaurant in Sanger. About twenty of
us went and had some mighty fine Italian
food.
We have quite a few runs already scheduled
for the rest of the year and new ones keep
popping up. On March 14th Skip and Leigh
Ann Severance have a run to Cat Haven with
a stop for lunch on the way. It’ll be a good
time driving the Vettes through the foothills.
Chuck and Sharon Hall are putting together a
run on April 18-19 to the races at the Kern
County Raceway Park in Bakersfield in
conjunction with Corvettes of Bakersfield.
In May we’ve got the Cam Twisters Show,
the CVC Picnic and a foothill run/lunch with
the Corvettes of Fresno club. I know it’s a
lot of work to put on a run and the effort
put forth by members to sponsor one is
really appreciated by the club.
We are having new club business cards
printed and should have them available at
the next meeting. Take some and give one
to Corvette owners that you run into and
talk up the club. Our membership is holding
steady but we can always use new folks in
the club.
See you all at the next meeting and at the
upcoming runs.
SUNSHINE & CLOUDS
Jan De Mello-Pflepsen
Thanks to all of you who have contributed to our information requests.
1. Connie and Andy have great news regarding their family. They are now the
happy great-grandparents of Luke Patrick. Luke weighed in at 7# 20oz. This
birth is very special; they have 6 granddaughters; this being the first boy.
2. From Joyce Kroeker: they are off to Nashville for the Demolition Convention
on March 20th for 5 days. Ed, Jill, Joyce and Steve will be traveling together
with other family members. Son Jeff is president of the National Demolition
Association. They will be staying at the Gaylord which is a fantastic hotel.
All are praying that Ed will be up to travelling.
3. Per Charlotte: Charlotte says she wishes she had some good news: her
brother in law has been in the hospital for over a week with pneumonia.
Hopefully he will be released soon. Joanne has had a virus of some sort also
so they can certainly use some prayers and good thoughts coming their way.
4. And this message comes from our dear Debbie Garrison: they have some
good news and bad. The good news is that Keith finally has a scheduled
surgery date to have his knee replaced. The good news is that their dtr-inlaw
has been asked to interview at several medical schools. She has been to
Pikeville, Kentucky and they are interested in her. The bad news is we realize
she will be going away to the medical school of choice and we are going to
miss them so much, yet we are very proud of her but oh so sad the family will
leave Fresno, possibly California.
And now for some grandfatherly news from Gary. Gary’s grandson, Vincent
Logoluso placed 2 nd in the Clovis West Area science fair. Vincent’s project was
“how do different rates of water effect plant growth?”
Thank you again all for your contributions to Sunshine and Clouds!
The Chevrolet Corvette (Possibly) Goes Mid-Engine
By Arthur St. Antoine, Automobile Magazine - February 25, 2015
It seems a mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette has been in the works ever since, well, ever since
there was a Corvette.
After joining GM shortly after the ’Vette’s debut in 1953, Corvette chief engineer Zora
Arkus-Duntov soon began scheming for a mid-engine version. He understood the
responsive handling afforded by such a layout, but despite numerous internal design studies
over the ensuing decades, some development stops and starts, a few mid-engine Corvette
concepts, and always-rampant rumors that a mid-engine package was “right around the
corner,” no such car ever materialized. During development it seemed the
current Chevrolet Corvette C7 might finally take up the mid-engine mantle until budget
considerations axed the project.
Now the rumors are alive again, especially since the introduction of the mid-engine Ford
GT at the Detroit auto show. An intriguing prototype has been spied, and Chevy insiders
aren’t swatting aside the giddy conjecture it’s caused. More to the point, a mid-engine
Corvette at last makes business sense. As evidenced by our track drive in the Corvette Z06,
650 hp is nearing the limits for a front-engine design to handle. What’s more, a younger
generation of potential buyers doesn’t care that “a ’Vette has to look like a ’Vette.” Probably
they’d rather its proportions more closely resembled a McLaren. Or a Ferrari. Or even a
Porsche Cayman.
Due date? If the project doesn’t stall, look for a mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette to bow as a
top-tier model of the Corvette C8 in 2017. A version of the current small-block V-8 is almost
assured; a dual-clutch transmission with shift paddles on the steering wheel will likely also
appear. Were he still around, the “Father of the Corvette” would love the rumored name for
the mid-engine car: Zora ZR1.
