Location<br />
CESL is located on the Changping campus of the China<br />
University of Political Science and Law in Beijing, P.R.<br />
China.<br />
Description<br />
CESL is carried by an international consortium of<br />
renowned European universities covering all major<br />
legislations as well as two universities and one further<br />
academic institution from China. CESLs faculty consists<br />
of scholars from these partner institutions. In addition,<br />
international luminaries will hold regular guest lectures.<br />
CESL receives financial support from the European<br />
Commission and its establishment is based on an agreement<br />
between the Commission and the government<br />
of the P.R. China.<br />
Entry Requirements<br />
Students are eligible to the LL.M. programme if they meet<br />
the following criteria: - Succesful completion of prior<br />
studies in law - Possesion of a Bachelor in Law, State<br />
Examination or equivalent - Very good command of English<br />
To be eligible for the CESL Double Master Programme<br />
students must additionally pass the respective entrance<br />
examination and provide evidence of their Chinese<br />
language skills.<br />
Semester Commencement Dates<br />
The master programme beginns in September each year.<br />
International students will be introduced to Chinese<br />
culture, law and language in a two-weeks summer school<br />
prior to the start of the programme. The summer school<br />
will be held in Europe in June.<br />
The Master of Laws<br />
CESL offers two kinds of master programmes. One is<br />
the European Master Programme, which is divided in a<br />
variety of compulsory and elective modules on European<br />
and international law focusing on a comparative Chinese<br />
legal perspective. The courses are to be completed in<br />
two semesters followed by the preparation of the master<br />
thesis in the third semester. The language of instruction<br />
is English. Upon succesful completion the University of<br />
Hamburg will grant a Master of Law (LL.M.). CESL also<br />
offers a Double Master Programme consisting of the<br />
LL.M. programme and a 3-semester Chinese Juris Master<br />
Programme. The language of instruction in the J.M.<br />
programme is Chinese and the degree will be awarded by<br />
the China University of Political Science and Law.<br />
Fees<br />
The fee for the Master Programme amounts to 3,000 Euro<br />
per semester for international students.<br />
Accomodation<br />
CESL students have the choice between different options:<br />
to stay in one of the dormitories or in the International<br />
Exchange Centre situated on campus or to rent a furnished<br />
or unfurnished flat in the surroundings.<br />
Scholarships<br />
CESL offers scholarships to the top 10% of students<br />
amounting to up to 12,000 Euro annually. The meritbased<br />
selection will be made on the basis of applications<br />
received.<br />
