SCCH SOFTWARE COMPETENCE CENTER HAGENBERG
PARTNER IM
CDLABOR
PARTNER IN CD LABORATORY
schaffen, was Cloud Computing tatsächlich kostet, und
“SCCH is a scientific partner in the new C. Doppler
Laboratory for Client-Centric Cloud Computing,” hailed
a press release on the occasion of the establishment
of the eighth CD Laboratory in Upper Austria. SCCH
was significantly involved in determining the research
agenda of the C. Doppler Laboratory for Client-Centric
Cloud Computing (CDCC), and SCCH is not merely
working with CDCC but also provides its director.
SCCH contributes to CDCC its experience from the field
of service-oriented systems, skill in the development of
formal foundations for complex systems, and longrange
experience in application-oriented research.
The task of CDCC is to achieve transparency for users
concerning the true cost of cloud computing in the
sense that the user must know what measures to take to
ensure security, control, data protection, authorizations
and obligations, etc. Some, but not necessarily all of
these measures will be realized by client-side software.
CDCC will build the methodological and scientific
foundation.
The forgotten client is one of the many topics in cloud
computing that have not yet been researched in-depth.
If authorizations and obligations of users are to be
defined and checked by the client both at the client side
and in centralized systems, then this requires at least
a hybrid system architecture where part of the application
still runs locally at the client side. Client-side
problems also encompass the unambiguous authentication
of users, the management of access authorizations,
the adaptivity of the cloud to user preferences, and
more. Here SCCH contributes knowledge in systematic
specification and implementation of asynchronous,
distributed systems.
“Another problem is the forgotten foundation from a
mathematical and epistemological perspective. There is
no real definition of cloud computing. CDCC assumes
that a cloud as a reservoir of software services requires
a solid, formal and language-independent definition,
