Mahler Composition Prize. Margit<br />
Kern has per<strong>for</strong>med with such <strong>New</strong><br />
<strong>Music</strong> ensembles as Ensemble Modern,<br />
l’art pour l’art, oh ton-ensemble<br />
and Musikfabrik NRW. She per<strong>for</strong>ms<br />
repertoire from Early <strong>Music</strong> to <strong>New</strong><br />
<strong>Music</strong> together with her duo partner<br />
Katharina Bäuml as “Mixtura.” She<br />
has per<strong>for</strong>med as a guest artist at<br />
the Seoul Spring Festival, the Weltmusiktagen<br />
in Stuttgart, <strong>Music</strong>a Viva<br />
in Munich and the Ruhrtriennale in<br />
Bochum. She per<strong>for</strong>ed her solo recital<br />
entitled “im spiegel-ich” (three human<br />
images) at Deutschlandfunk’s<br />
Forum Neue Musik <strong>for</strong> which she<br />
has already given premiere per<strong>for</strong>mances<br />
of a series of solo works.<br />
Her repertoire is primarily focused<br />
on contemporary music. She collaborates closely with composers. She has given premiere<br />
per<strong>for</strong>mances of many works including compositions by Charlotte Seither, Earl Kim, Annette<br />
Schlünz, Younghi Pagh-Paan, Jin-Ah Ahn, and Samir Odeh-Tamimi, among many<br />
others. Many of her recital programs such as her program “HanNAH” <strong>for</strong> accordion and live<br />
electronic music have been featured in radio broadcasts.<br />
In 2005 she released her first solo CD entitled “Heart.” This was followed in 2011 by her<br />
next release, “TWO.” In 2012, she was featured in the latest release by “Mixtura,” entitled<br />
“Miniatures.”<br />
Margit Kern teaches accordion at the University of the Arts, Bremen.<br />

Margit Kern, geboren 1967 in der Nähe von Darmstadt, studierte Akkordeon bei Hugo Noth<br />
an der Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen und bei Matti Rantanen an der<br />
Sibelius Akademie in Helsinki. Von Anneli Arho-Tiensuu wurde sie in der Analyse Neuer<br />
Musik unterrichtet. Der Abschluss ihrer Studien erfolgte mit der Konzertreife. Margit Kern<br />
erhielt umfangreiche Stipendien des Evangelischen Studienwerks und gewann den 1. Preis<br />
des International Gaudeamus Competition <strong>for</strong> Interpreters of Contemporary <strong>Music</strong>, was<br />
