MEDEA & DIE ILLEGALEN / Recherchen zur Polis Europa ·· Videokunst ·· HfG Karlsruhe ·· 4. Semester ·· 2005 ·· 35min.
Bürger, Fischer, Polizisten, Tourismus und Migration, die Grenze
Mittelmeer und das Lager. Eine Dreikanal-Videoinstallation zu Identität
und Grenzen Europas. Auf drei Leinwänden, die im Halbkreis
zueinander hängen, monologisieren jenseits des hysterischen
Tagesschau-Hypes dokumentarische Erzähler über ihren Alltag
inmitten des sizilianischen Urlaubs- und Grenzgefüges. In immer
Gegenwart.
Citizens, fishermen, police, tourism and migration, camping places
and deportation camps, the Mediterranean border. A three-channel
video installation about identity and the borders of Europe. On
three screens in a half-circle, narrators presented in a documentary
style deliver monologues about their mundane lives in Sicily
between holiday- and border-realities. Always standing in the same
position in the center of the frame, these people become existential
representatives for a structural problem; their surroundings become
stages. The borders seem fragmented, and depend on your
perspective. The sea seems simultaneously benign and dangerous.
The story of Medea as an archetypical asylum seeker links the
beginnings of democracy to its present condition.
