SCIENCE ON STAGE
On the 28th of April eight GIBS students (Klara Finder,
Paul Klingenberg, Sophie Koppensteiner, Schima
Labitsch, Navarone Moscher, Jaesoon Park, Julia Wohlfahrt
and Mathias Zanker) performed “Heisenberg and
the Turtle”, a play based on the invention of differential
calculus written by Mr. Helmut Lambauer for the Science
on Stage event in Vienna’s Museumsquartier.
Science on Stage is an event that aims at enhancing
the participation of young Europeans in the natural
sciences.
The subjext of the play is Zeno’s Paradox which
claims that Achilles can’t overtake the turtle once it has
a headstart, which is visually disproved when they in
fact race each other. As Zeno correctly argues, “Visual
impressions are irrelevant. It is the logic that counts.” So
in the end only Heisenberg’s pioneering scientifi c cognition
of the uncertainty of relativity as well as Newton’s
already mentioned invention of differential calculus, can
offer a solution to Zeno’s paradox.
Although the audience really liked the play, some
might still be scared of Alexis Zorbas (Navarone Moscher)
who tested them on their knowledge of Physics
at the beginning of the play.
If our hopes come true we might even be invited
to the European session of Science on Stage in Berlin,
who knows?
Herberstein - 1A
Our fi rst biology fi eld trip was an excursion to Herberstein!
On Monday, 26.5.08, we went there, together with
our new classmate Philine!
We had two guides from the Zooschule Herberstein
and saw tiny monkeys, lions, rabbits and lots of other
animals. We learned about their habits and family life! It
was a great day and we also visited the castle.
