(@. 338.) »It is remarkable that within the area of ihe
trapezium no nebula exists. The brighter porlion
of the nebula
immediately adjacent to the trapezium, forming the square front
of the head, is shown with the 18-inch rcfleclor broken up
into masses, whose motlled and curdling light evidently indicales
by a sort of granulär texture its consisling of stars; and
when examined under the grcat light of Lord Rosse's reflector
or the exquisite deßning power of ihe great achromatic at Cambridge,
U. S., is evidently perccived to consist of cluslering
stars. There can therefore be little doubt as to the whole consisting
of stars, too minute to be discerned individually even
with Ihe powerful aids, but which become visible as points of
light when closely adjacent in the more crowdcd parts.« (Outlines
