Liebe Athletinnen und Athleten, ich erinnere mich noch gut, wie ich im Alter von 13 Jahren meinen ersten Länderkampf im Fechten in Amsterdam bestritten habe. Das war für mich ein großes Abenteuer. Besonders stolz bin ich gewesen, als der Brief mit der Berufung in die nationalmannschaft kam und als uns die Wettkampf kleidung mit dem Bundesadler übergeben worden ist. So fühlt Ihr Euch heute sicher auch: aufgeregt, gespannt und voller Erwartungen. Der Deutsche Olympische Sportbund freut sich, Euch bei den 1. Olympischen Jugend-Winterspielen begleiten zu dürfen und diese olympische Erfahrung mit Euch zu teilen. Mögen es faire und fröhliche Spiele werden, mit einer olympischen Atmosphäre, die zu Höchstleistungen anspornt und bei denen Ihr viele interessante Begegnungen mit anderen Athleten aus über 60 nationen haben werdet. Genießt jeden Augenblick dieser Erfahrung und nehmt sie als Motivation für weiteres hartes Training, damit wir Euch hoffentlich 2014 in Sotschi oder 2018 in Pyeongchang in der Olympiamannschaft wiedersehen werden. Dear Athletes, I can well remember taking part in my fi rst ever international fencing competition in Amster dam at the age of 13. It was a great adventure for me. I was very proud when the letter arrived telling me that I had been selected for the national team and when the competition outfi t, bearing the national colours, was handed out to us. This is just how you must be feeling today: excited, exhilarated and full of expectation. The German Olympic Sports Confederation is delighted to be able to support you at the fi rst ever Winter Youth Olympic Games and to share this Olympic experience with you. May the Games be fair and happy, with an Olympic atmosphere that will drive you to excellent performances; may you have many interesting encounters with other athletes from over 60 countries. Enjoy every moment of this experience and use it as motivation for further hard training, so that, hopefully, we shall see you again in the Olympic team in 2014 in Sochi or in 2018 in Pyeongchang. In Deutschland gehört Ihr zu den Besten eures Jahrgangs. In Innsbruck könnt Ihr Euch jetzt in einer neuen Dimension mit der internationalen Konkurrenz messen und viel Erfahrung und Motivation für Eure weitere Leistungs entwicklung sammeln. Bei diesen Olympischen Jugend-Winterspielen werdet Ihr mit Euren Leistungen junge Menschen aus allen Teilen der Erde für euren Sport begeistern. Ihr lebt und vermittelt die Olympischen Werte Freundschaft, Respekt und Exzellenz (Höchstleistung) und tretet für einen sauberen Sport ohne Doping und Manipulation ein. Gebt Euer Bestes und nutzt darüber hinaus die vielen Angebote des Kultur- und Bildungsprogramms. Ich wünsche Euch für Innsbruck die besten Leistungen, viel Erfolg, unvergessliche Erlebnisse und uns allen ein tolles deutsches Team. Your achievements at these Winter Youth Olympic Games will enthuse young people from all parts of the world for your sport. You will live – and inspire others to live – the Olympic values of friendship, respect and excellence at the highest levels of performance and you will be ambassadors for clean sport without doping or manipulation.
