KNX in Ägypten – eine Erfolgsstory
KNX in Egypt – a success story
Die KNX Technologie wurde
im Jahre 2000 in Ägypten
durch die ägyptische ABB
Automation eingeführt. Damit
wurde das erste KNX
Team im Afrika gegründet.
Das erste Projekt, die Festhalle
der ägyptischen Ain
Shams Universität, wurde im
Oktober 2001 gewonnen und
damit startete die Erfolgsgeschichte
von KNX. Sechs Jahre
nach Einführung von KNX
gibt es 60 Projekte in Ägypten
und zwei Projekte in Algerien
und Kenia.
Diese Projekte decken die
verschiedensten Gebäudetypen
(Universitäten, Banken,
Hotels, Verwaltungsgebäude,
Geschäftszentren, Flughäfen,
Fußballstadien, Olympische Hallen,
Parkanlagen, Villen, Clubhäuser,
Versorgungsbetriebe,
Marinestationen und Wohnungen)
sowie verschiedene KNX
Applikationen wie Lichtmanagement,
Dimmen, Verschattungsanlagen,
Sicherheitssysteme,
Überwachungsanlagen,
Schnittstellen zur GLT, Videoüberwachungen,
Telefon, Internet,
Heizungs-, Lüftungsund
Klimaanlagen ab.
Nile City Towers
Die Nile City Towers sind das
erste Projekt in Ägypten, das
vollständig in KNX Technologie
projektiert wurde. Das
Gebäude besteht aus zwei
Hochhaustürmen mit je 32
Stockwerken. Jedes Stockwerk
hat 2.000m² Geschoßfläche
mit Blick über den Nil.
Das Gesamte Stockwerk ist
mit KNX Technologie ausgestattet
mit insgesamt 7.400
KNX Geräten wie 430 Anwesenheitsmelder,
180 Bewegungsmelder,
1.200 Fan Coil
Stellantriebe, 1.200 Raumthermostaten,
240 Jalousieantrieben,
54 Touchscreens,
mehr als 1500 durch KNX
geregelte Licht- und Dimmschaltkreise.
30.000 KNX
Steuerungskabel wurden verbaut.
Die Bauherren sind gehören
zu den renommiertesten Firmen
in ihren Gebieten: Orascom
Construction and Industries
(O.C.I), Mobinil Telecommunication,
Egyptian for
Cement, Orascom Telecom
and Contrack–GSG.
Four Seasons Hotel
Dieses Projekt ist weltweit
der erste Auftrag für KNX
von Four Season Hotels. Der
Planer ist Dar-Al-Handasah,
einer der anerkanntesten Planer
im Mittleren Osten und
dem arabischen Raum. Das
Projekt wurde 2004 gewonnen
und liegt im San Stefano
Complex in Alexandria City
am Mittelmeer. Die KNX
Applikation beinhaltet die intelligente
Dimmsteuerung.
1600 Dimmschaltkreise und
KNX Dimmschaltschränke
wurde installiert, um eine
Vielzahl an Leuchten zu regeln.

KNX technology was introduced
in the Egyptian market
in 2000 through the Egypt
branch of ABB Automation,
which launched the first KNX
team in the continent of Africa.
The first project, the celebrating
hall at Egyptian Ain
Shams University, was won in
October 2001, starting the
KNX success story. Six years
after the introduction of KNX
there are 60 projects in Egypt
Nile City Towers / Nile City Towers
and two projects in Algeria
and Kenya.
These projects cover different
types of buildings like
(Universities, banks, hotels, administration
buildings, commercial
centers, airports, football
stadiums, Olympics halls, open
parks, residential villas, clubs,
utilities , embassies, mar-ine stations
and apartments) as well
as different KNX applications
like lighting management, dimming,
shutters, HVAC, security
, monitoring, interface to
- BMS, CCTV, telephone and
Internet.
Nile City Towers
The Nile City Towers is the
first project entirely based on
KNX technology in Egypt. The
building consists of two towers
each with 32 floors. Each
floor has 2,000m² floor area
with a view over the Nile
River. The entire floor is
equipped with KNX technology,
totalling 7400 KNX devices
like 430 presence sensors,
180 motion sensors,
1200 fan coil actuators, 1200
room thermostats, 240 shutter
actuators, 54 touchscreens,
and more than 1500
lighting and 220 dimming cir-
cuits controlled by KNX system.
30,000 KNX control cables
were used. The owners
are the most renowned companies
in their field: Orascom
Construction and Industries
(O.C.I), Mobinil Telecommunication,
Egyptian for Cement,
Orascom Telecom and Contrack
– GSG.
Four Seasons Hotel
This is the first commission
worldwide from Four Season
Hotels for KNX. The consultant
was Dar-Al-Handasah,
the most renowned consultant
in Middle East and Arab
world. The project was won
in 2004 and is located at the
San Stefano Complex in Alexandria
City on the Mediterranean
Sea. KNX applications
cover the intelligent dimming
control system. 1600 dimming
circuits and KNX dimming
control panels were installed
to control numerous lamps.
