On a cold winter’s night, 20 members
and guests of our regional bSb-group got
together at the impressive IBB-building
in Berlin-Schöneberg. Sabin Schondev,
one of the members, has been with the
Investment Bank Berlin for 15 years and
she made it possible to have our February
meeting in the conference facilities there.
On this occasion, we would like to thank
her and all the other members who hosted
our meetings at their working place.
Expectantly, 40 eyes were fi xed on Caterina
Schöne, who many of us know from
various occasions, be it language lessons,
be it evening courses at the bSb.
Mrs. Schöne welcomed us with a bright
smile and warm words and in no time
we were right in the middle of a stunning
introductory story. In this, we were introduced
to her and the origin of her fi rst
name, and we learned about her professional
career as interpreter, translator,
teacher and trainer. She asked us why we
had come here and one after the other, the
participants gave their reasons for attend-
ing this evening course. Some were eager
to beef up their small talk abilities, some
wanted to overcome the feeling of being
rude on the phone, some wanted to lose
their fear of making mistakes and some
just wanted to brush up their English. This
mixture of reasons created a very nice
atmosphere and the more we spoke the
more the fear of speaking was reduced.
Mrs. Schöne’s smile signaled confi dence
and made us feel comfortable. Easily
she combined our stories with words and
phrases that help in various situations.
Her enthusiasm was contagious and she
left us with the feeling that it is not really
important to speak without mistakes but
much more important to speak at all.
After two lively and entertaining hours, we
were absolutely astonished that time had
fl own so fast.
Thank you, Caterina. We are looking forward
to our next evening course.
