Die Firma <strong>Kowsky</strong> ist schon seit Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts in der Orthopädie<br />
tätig. Aus Ostpreußen stammend, wanderte der Firmengründer Fritz<br />
Ernst <strong>Kowsky</strong> um 1900 nach Südafrika aus. Nach hart erarbeiteten Erfolgen<br />
warf der Erste Weltkrieg seine Schatten über das englische Kolonialreich<br />
Südafrika. Nach den Wirren des Krieges schlug die Familie <strong>Kowsky</strong> den Weg<br />
zurück nach Deutschland ein und wurde in Neumünster ansässig. Mit Paul<br />
<strong>Kowsky</strong> gelangte hier auch die zweite Generation in das Unternehmen.<br />
Zunächst lag der Schwerpunkt im Bereich der Orthopädie-Mechanik, verlagerte<br />
sich Mitte der 60er Jahre aber auf die Produktion von Gehhilfen und<br />
orthopädischem Zubehör. Seit Anfang der 70er Jahre wird das umfangreiche<br />
Sortiment in der eigens erstellten Fabrikationsstätte in Neumünster hergestellt.<br />
1976 teilte sich das Gesamtunternehmen <strong>Kowsky</strong>-Orthopädie mit der<br />
Übernahme durch die dritte Familiengeneration in zwei unabhängige<br />
Betriebe, zum einen in das Sanitätshaus und zum anderen in die Fabrikation<br />
orthopädischer Hilfsmittel unter der Leitung von Erwin <strong>Kowsky</strong>. Heute liegt die<br />
Unternehmensführung der Erwin <strong>Kowsky</strong> GmbH & Co. KG in der Hand der vierten<br />
Generation. Unter der Geschäftsführung von Stefan <strong>Kowsky</strong> wurde das<br />
Unternehmen nach EN ISO 9001:2008 und EN ISO 13485:2003 + AC:2007<br />
zertifiziert.<br />

Serving physical mobility for 100 years<br />
The company <strong>Kowsky</strong> has already been active in the orthopaedics industry<br />
since the end of the 19th century. The company founder Fritz Ernst <strong>Kowsky</strong><br />
came from East Prussia and emigrated to South Africa round about 1900.<br />
He earned hard-worked success, however, World War I cast a cloud over the<br />
British colonial empire South Africa. After the chaos of war the <strong>Kowsky</strong><br />
family returned to Germany and started to establish their family-run business<br />
in Neumünster, situated in the middle of Schleswig-Holstein, the northernmost<br />
federal state of Germany. With Paul <strong>Kowsky</strong> the second generation entered<br />
the company. At first the focus was on orthopaedic mechanics, but as of the<br />
mid 1960's this has more and more changed to the production of walking aids and<br />
orthopaedic accessories. Since the beginning of the 1970’s the comprehensive<br />
product portfolio has been manufactured at the production location in<br />
Neumünster, which has been built especially for this purpose. As the third<br />
generation came into the business in 1976, the family-owned company<br />
<strong>Kowsky</strong> Orthopaedics was split into two separate companies: The supplier<br />
of medical equipment named Sanitätshaus <strong>Kowsky</strong> and the production of<br />
orthopaedic accessories and aids led by Erwin <strong>Kowsky</strong>. Today, Erwin <strong>Kowsky</strong><br />
GmbH & Co. KG is led by the fourth <strong>Kowsky</strong> generation. Under the management<br />
of Stefan <strong>Kowsky</strong> the company has achieved certification according to EN ISO<br />
9001:2008 as well as EN ISO 13485:2003 and AC:2007.<br />
Our declared aims have always been and still are a high level of customer<br />

Naturlatex<br />
Der Rohstoff für Naturlatex stammt<br />
vom tropischen Gummi- oder Kautschukbaum<br />
„Hevea brasiliensis”,<br />
der vor allem in Südost-Asien<br />
wächst. In der Rinde des glatten<br />
bis zu 20 m hohen Stammes befinden<br />
sich Milchröhrchen, die den<br />
Kautschuksaft enthalten. Die Rinde<br />
wird bogenförmig angeschnitten,<br />
damit die Latexmilch ausfließt und<br />
in kleinen Bechern aufgefangen<br />
werden kann. Der Milchsaft wird zu<br />
feinporigem Schaum geschlagen,<br />
anschließend in eine Form gegossen<br />
und bei Temperaturen um 100° C<br />
vulkanisiert. Naturkautschuk ist ein<br />
nachwachsender Rohstoff.<br />
Kissen aus Naturlatex haben eine<br />
sehr hohe Punktelastizität,<br />
die für die Körperanpassung und<br />
damit für den Sitz-/Liegekomfort<br />
verantwortlich ist. Hervorragende<br />
mikroklimatische Eigenschaften<br />
sorgen für ein angenehmes Körpergefühl<br />
speziell auf der Haut.<br />
Natural latex<br />
The raw material for natural latex<br />
is won from the tropical rubber<br />
tree “Hevea brasiliensis” primarily<br />
growing in Southeast Asia.<br />
The vessels containing the latex<br />
sap are imbedded in the bark of the<br />
smooth bole which can reach a<br />
height of up to 20m. To harvest the<br />
sap, an incision is made to tap the<br />
vessels and the latex sap is collected<br />
in small buckets. The sap is frothed<br />
to receive fine pored foam which is<br />
poured into a form and then vulcanized<br />
at temperatures of about<br />
100°Celsius. Natural latex is a<br />
renewable resource.<br />
Cushions made of natural latex<br />
feature a very high point elasticity<br />
that ensures good adaption to the<br />
body shape and thus guarantees a<br />
high level of comfort on all seating<br />
and lounge furniture.<br />
Excellent microclimatic qualities<br />
offer a pleasant sensational quality,<br />
especially on skin.<br />
Kaltschaum<br />
Kaltschaum ist ein hochwertiges<br />
Material, das ähnliche Werte wie<br />
Latex erreicht und meist im Blockschaumverfahren<br />
eingesetzt wird.<br />
Es handelt sich um einen Polyetherschaumstoff,<br />
der im Gegensatz zum<br />
Standardschaumstoff als so<br />
genannter HR-Schaumstoff<br />
(HR= High Resilent = hochelastisch)<br />
bei veränderter Rezeptur eine<br />
Reihe von Vorteilen aufweist:<br />
Die unregelmäßige, grobe Porenstruktur<br />
mit hoher Luftdurchlässigkeit<br />
ist atmungsaktiv und unterstützt<br />
ein angenehmes Sitz- und<br />
Schlafklima. Bei geschmeidigem<br />
Griff wird ein hochelastischer Polsterkomfort<br />
erreicht. Kaltschäume<br />
zeigen ein gutes Einfederungsverhalten,<br />
der Schaum widersetzt sich<br />
einer Belastung gleichmäßig und<br />
bricht nur wenig ein.<br />
Cold foam<br />
Cold foam counts as highest quality<br />
material among foam types.<br />
It is frequently used in foam slap<br />
procedure and shows the same<br />
values as latex. As HR foam (HR =<br />
High Resilient) this polyether foam<br />
differs from standard foams in<br />
showing a series of benefits when<br />
the recipe is modified: The uneven,<br />
coarsely porous structure is highly<br />
permeable to air and therefore<br />
breathable, which forms a basic<br />
requirement for a comfortable<br />
seating and sleeping environment<br />
quality. The flexible feel allows for<br />
an extremely elastic cushioning<br />
comfort. In comparison to composite<br />
foam, cold foam types offer better<br />
compression behaviour, they feature<br />
a better weight distribution and<br />
less cavity formation.<br />
Verbundschaum<br />
Verbundschaum ist ein Material<br />
mit sehr hohem Raumgewicht und<br />
wird aus Schaumstoffabfällen<br />
unter Einsatz eines Bindemittels<br />
und Einwirkung von Hitze zu<br />
Verbundblöcken gepresst, die<br />
anschließend in die gewünschte<br />
Form geschnitten werden.<br />
Je nach Raumgewicht haben<br />
Verbundschäume unterschiedlich<br />
elastische Polsterwirkung.<br />
Wir benutzen für die Keilkissen<br />
Verbundschaumstoff mit einem<br />
Raumgewicht von 140 kg/m 3 und<br />
einer Stauchhärte von 40 kPa bei<br />
40 % um eine für Verbundschaumstoff<br />
überdurchschnittlich hohe<br />
Elastizität und Qualität zu gewährleisten.<br />
Composite foam<br />
Composite foam is a material<br />
showing very high volumetric weight.<br />
During the production process,<br />
foam scrap is pressed into composite<br />
blocks using a binding agent and<br />
heat. Finally, the blocks are cut<br />
into the desired shape. Composite<br />
foam types show different cushioning<br />
comfort, depending on their<br />
volumetric weight.<br />
In order to ensure our excellent<br />
flexibility and quality, we use<br />
composite foam with a volumetric<br />
weight of 140kg/m3 and a<br />
compression hardness of 40 kPa<br />
at 40% for our wedge cushions.
