What is ECEN
European Christian Environmental Network (ECEN)
is a church network promoting co-operation in caring
for creation. Ecological threats transcend national and confessional
boundaries. In 1997, the 2nd European Ecumenical
Assembly in Graz, Austria, acted on this need for a common
witness by recommending “that a network of persons with
environmental responsibilities“ within the churches should
be set up at a European level. The 3rd European Ecumenical
Assembly in 2007 in Sibiu, Romania, further supported these
efforts. ECEN is a response to this call.
The aim of the ECEN is to share information, experiences in
environmental work among widely varied Christian traditions
and to encourage a united witness in caring for God‘s creation.
The Conference of European Churches (KEK/CEC) supports
ECEN through the secretary in the office of Church and
Society Commission of KEK, Brussels. ECEN invitates christians
of all confessions to cooperate.
We are delighted to hear from anyone who wishes
to support the “Species Protection team“:
• Report on what is happening in your church and send us
details or press releases. On the ECEN homepage we have
texts in many languages. It helps you can also send a small
introduction in different languages.
• Join the working group: We can exchange ideas and develop
guidelines to help protect biodiversity in churches.
The group ist coordinated by Dr. Hans-Hermann Böhm,
Was ist ECEN
Zweiten Europäischen Ökumenischen Versammlung in Graz,
