Die Internationalität der Pferdrennen von St. Moritz
dokumentiert sich in der Zusammenarbeit mit drei
ausländischen Rennsportpartnern. Berlin-Hoppegarten,
Mauritius und Taranto lauten jene Stationen mit denen
White Turf kooperiert. Basis dafür ist in erster Linie der
Sport, aber auch Kunst und Touristik gehören dazu.
So war es am 15. September 2012 auf der deutschen
Hauptstadt-Rennbahn in Berlin-Hoppegarten. Dort fand
schon zum zweiten Mal ein Grand Prix White Turf St. Moritz
statt. White Turf-CEO Silvio Martin Staub überreichte dem
siegreichen Team um die Stute Indian Lovesong edle
White Turf Cashmere-Pferdedecken. An seiner Seite stand
neben Hoppegartens Eigner Gerhard Schöningh mit Dr.
Daniela Stoffel die Gesandte der Schweizer Botschaft,
worauf bei der Siegerehrung die Schweizer Nationalhymne
ertönte. „Hier geht alles mit viel Herzlichkeit zu“, sagte
Frau Dr. Stoffel beim Interview und freute sich über
die deutsch-schweizerische Freundschaft in Sachen
Pferderennsport. In der Botschaft ging im Vorfeld des
Renntages die Pressekonferenz über die Bühne, an der mit
Tim Guldimann auch der Schweizer Botschafter teilnahm.
Im Gegenzug findet am 17. Februar 2013 ein GP Rennbahn
Berlin-Hoppegarten auf dem St. Moritzersee statt. Damit
wird eine längst entstandene Freundschaft zwischen White
Turf St. Moritz und der Rennbahn Berlin-Hoppegarten
weiter zementiert aus der beide Seiten sportlich und
touristisch Nutzen ziehen. Silvio Martin Staub bringt es auf
den Punkt: „Es gibt hier nicht nur Besitzer, Trainer, Jockeys
und Pferde, sondern es kommt mit der Freundschaft im
Denken eine fünfte Komponente hinzu“ und spielt auf
die gute Zusammenarbeit mit Gerhard Schöningh und
seinem Team an. Beim Renntag in Berlin-Hoppegarten
präsentierte sich die Region um St. Moritz mit einem Zelt
von Engadin Tourismus. Ausserdem wurden einer breiteren
Öffentlichkeit erstmals acht Gemälde des St. Moritzer
Künstlers Dusan Sekela gezeigt, sowie 24 Satteldecken,
die sich bereits bei White Turf im Einsatz befanden. Nun
kehren die Kunstwerke wieder nach St. Moritz zurück.
Neu aus der Taufe wurde indes die Zusammenarbeit mit dem
„Ippodromo Paolo VI“ im italienischen Taranto gehoben.
Äusserer Anlass waren, ebenfalls am 15. September
2012, die Weltmeisterschaften im Trabrennsport bei den
Amateurfahrerinnen. Gäste aus zwölf Nationen, darunter
den USA, Neuseeland, Russland, Frankreich, Belgien
und den Niederlanden, reisten für die Weltmeisterschaften
nach Taranto. Der gesamte Renntag stand unter dem
Patronat von White Turf. Cristiano Luminati, Mitglied
des White Turf-Direktoriums, führte vor Ort weiter, was
vor zwei Jahren in intensiven Gesprächen zwischen
Silvio Martin Staub und Fredy Moder von Swiss Trot
während eines Freundschaftstreffens begonnen hatte.
Bereits am Vortag des Renntages, wurde Cristiano
Luminati von der italienischen Delegation feierlich
in der „Regione“ empfangen. Er informierte an der
Pressekonferenz über die Rennen in St. Moritz und
überreichte am Renntag persönlich die Siegerpreise an
die drei erstplatzierten Damen des Weltcups. „Für beide
Rennveranstalter steht der Sport im Mittelpunkt und dank
der Ressourcen der beiden Länder und des kulturellen
Austauschs wollen sie sich gemeinsam weiterentwickeln
und voneinander profitieren“, wurde im unterschriebenen
Kooperationsabkommen festgehalten. Diese Kooperation
stellt nicht nur eine Bereicherung für die White Turf
Racing Association dar, sondern insbesondere auch für die
Tourismusdestination Engadin.
Ein weiteres internationales Standbein existiert mit
Mauritius und dessen ältestem Rennverein auf der
Südhalbkugel. Die Palmen auf dem See bilden alljährlich
das äussere Zeichen dieser Verbindung, die zudem
durch ein White Turf-Rennen auf Mauritius gelebt wird,
das zuletzt im Frühjahr 2012 stattfand. Die Engadiner
Delegation würdigte vor Ort die Herzlichkeit des Empfangs
und bestaunte die Professionalität der Rennen, die einen
höheren Stellenwert als Fussball oder Formel 1 besitzen.
Erstmals könnte sich am ersten Rennsonntag bei White Turf
ein Jockey aus Mauritius in den Sattel schwingen. Dort sind
auch Stars wie Lanfranco Dettori und Olivier Peslier gern
gesehene Gäste. Beide Weltklasse-Jockeys haben in der
Vergangenheit auch schon Ritte auf dem St. Moritzersee
absolviert.

The international setting of the horse races in St. Moritz finds
its expression in the cooperation with three foreign racing
sports partners: Berlin-Hoppegarten, Mauritius and Taranto.
Based first and foremost on sports, the collaboration also
encompasses art and tourism.
This was also the case on September 15th 2012 in Berlin-
Hoppegarten, the racecourse of Germany’s capital, where a
Grand Prix White Turf St. Moritz took place for the second
time already. White Turf CEO Silvio Martin Staub presented
Indian Lovesong’s winning team with precious White Turf
cashmere horse rugs. The award ceremony, during which the
national anthem of the winner was played, was also graced
by the presence of Hoppegarten owner Gerhard Schöningh
and Dr. Daniela Stoffel, envoy of the Swiss embassy. “The
atmosphere is very cordial“, Dr. Stoffel said in the interview
and was delighted with the Swiss German horse racing
friendship. Prior to the race day a press conference was
held at the embassy, which was also attended by the Swiss
Ambassador Tim Guldimann.
In return there will be a Grand Prix Rennbahn Berlin-
Hoppegarten on the Lake St. Moritz on February 17th 2013.
With this the by now established friendship between White
Turf St. Moritz and the racecourse Berlin-Hoppegarten - from
which both sides mutually benefit with regards to sports and
tourism - will be further consolidated. Silvio Martin Staub
puts it in a nutshell: “This is not only about owners, trainers,
jockeys and horses. The friendship in thought adds a fifth
element to it“, alluding to the good collaboration with Gerhard
Schöningh and his team. On the day of the race the region of
St. Moritz was showcased in a tent at the racecourse Berlin-
Hoppegarten. Besides, for the very first time a wider public
had the chance to admire eight paintings by the St. Moritz
artist Dusan Sekela, as well as 24 artfully painted horse rugs,
which had already been in use at White Turf. Now the art
pieces return to St. Moritz again.
By contrast, the cooperation with “Ippodromo Paolo VI“ in the
Italian city of Taranto was newly launched on the occasion
of the Ladies Amateur Driver’s World Cup in Taranto, which
also took place on September 15th 2012. Guests from twelve
nations, including the USA, New Zealand, Russia, France,
Belgium and the Netherlands travelled to Taranto for the
World Cup. The entire race day was under the auspices of
White Turf. Cristiano Luminati, member of the White Turf
board of directors, continued on site what had begun two
years earlier as intensive talks between Silvio Martin Staub
and Fredy Moder from Swiss Trot during a friendly meeting.
On the day before the race day, Cristiano Luminati was
ceremoniously welcomed in the “Regione” by the Italian
delegation. At the media conference he informed about the
races in St. Moritz and on the race day he personally presented
the three World Cup winning ladies with the prizes. The signed
cooperation agreement stipulates: “Both race organizers
focus on the sport and want to further develop together and
benefit from each other by building on the resources of the
two countries and the cultural exchange“. The cooperation is
not only a gain for the White Turf Racing Association, but also
very much for the Engadin as a tourist destination.
Another international pillar is Mauritius with the oldest turf
club in the southern hemisphere. Every year, the palm trees
on the lake are the visible sign of this connection, which also
finds its expression in a White Turf race in Mauritius, the
last of which has taken place in spring 2012. The Engadin
delegation acknowledged the warm welcome they received
there and then and marveled at the professionalism of the
races that rate higher than football or Formula One. For the
first time a jockey from Mauritius might get on a horse on the
first White Turf race Sunday, where stars such as Lanfranco
Dettori and Olivier Peslier are also very welcome guests. Both
of these world-class jockeys have been racing across the Lake
St. Moritz in the past.
