In Australien geboren, lebt Paul Gazzola heute in
Berlin. Er hat eine Ausbildung zum Tischler und
später ein B.A.-Studium in Tanz absolviert. 2004
verbindet: „The Body / Image in architecture“ – die
Beziehung zwischen Körper und Architektur.
My interest with the STREETS AS PICTURES SERIES is
in how the regimes of surveillance and the spaces‘
they monitor impact upon society. Exploring through
a combination of video works and performance scenarios
the codifying and standardising effect, emanating
from such control mechanisms onto the body
plus possible strategies both personal and collective
to counter such detached observations.
The omnipresence of surveillance is addressed by
Paul Gazzola along with (theater) artists from Halle:
interviews with citizens and the police, spontaneous
interventions in urban space and the question
“what makes whom seem suspicious?”. A video
installation of interventions and interviews as well
as an exhibition of the most beautiful webcams in
the world can be seen in the ufo Galerie and art
space.
