to the 20 th century. The task split between the various scholarly disciplines into the fields of Balkan studies and Near
(Middle) East studies has resulted in dividing a shared history into various sub-histories. The aim of the monograph is to
reunite these isolated histories. Therefore, this monograph opens up completely new historical perspectives.

études préottomanes et ottomanes (CIEPO) which has taken place in Zagreb in August 2008 (eighty-three authors from
fifteen countries). CIEPO is the non-profit association of more than a hundred of world’s leading scholars in Ottoman
studies, founded in 1973, whose meetings are open for all other researchers as well. The contributions cover a very large
field (Turkey, Central and Southeastern Europe, the Middle East, from ca. 1300 to 1922), including a vast variety of
topics.

Die Syro-Palästinensische Delegation am Völkerbund und Šakīb Arslān in Genf
1921 – 1936/46
Die Ära des Völkerbundes brachte für die arabischen Landesteile des ehemaligen Osmanischen Reiches drastische Veränderungen
mit sich. Statt einem souveränen Staat entstanden mehrere Mandatsgebiete unter Aufsicht des Völkerbundes
und Verwaltung Großbritanniens und Frankreichs. Da der Völkerbund jedoch die Entlassung dieser Mandate in die Unabhängigkeit
verbrieft hatte, war er das internationale Forum, vor dem arabische Vertreter Beschwerde führten und für die
Unabhängigkeit kämpften. Als wichtiges Sprachrohr etablierte sich die Syro-Palästinensische Delegation unter Leitung
von Šakīb Arslān.
