Specialattention has been paid to municipal infrastructure, sustainable developmentand ecology.The City of Rijeka is leader and promoter of new projects and newkinds of financing. The Foundation of the University of Rijeka hasbeen established. Regional Development Agency is preparing projectsfor pre-accession European funds. The Guarantee Agency is inthe process of establishment. Projects for public private partnershipsare being developed. Financial and institutional support to entrepreneursis constantly provided. The secondary city center issituated in the area of 40 ha., marked on the urban general plan withK2-1 and K2-2.The zone for sport and recreation and the reconstruction of the trafficand communal infrastructure includes the area of 25 ha., and is markedwith R1-4 on the urban general plan.The main feature in the development plans of the City of Rijeka isthe relocation and the modernizations of the port facilities as wellas construction of new road infrastructure within the Rijeka GatewayProject, which will totally change Rijeka’s outlook and provide freeapproach to the sea.Our wish is to make Rijeka recognizable as a dynamic city, focusedon urban tourism, economic activities and development of newtechnologies. In Rijeka, the first torpedo was designed and produced, thetrajectory of the bullet was photographed for the first time, and aseries of technical innovations were made. The International Fair ofNew Technologies and Products gives proper stimulation for the developmentand implementation of new technologies as a support forknowledge based economic development.
