The DBSV: Definition, Function and Achievements
DBSV's activities
Over the 50 years since small to
medium-sized yacht and ship builders
came together to form the Deutsche
Boots- und Schiffbauer-Verband
(DBSV), the association has developed
into a modern body that handles
the sector's interests and represents
it in almost all aspects of maritime
business. The association primarily
concentrates on areas where
concerted efforts are more effective
than individual undertakings.
Today, boat and ship builders still constitute
the core of the association's membership
but other companies that are commercially
and professionally closely linked to yacht
building have also become members. Such
companies particularly include manufacturers
and wholesalers of accessories, engineers
and designers, experts, yacht electricians
and yacht brokers along with such
corporate bodies as the boat-building guilds,
the Arbeitsgruppe Yachtelektrik (Yacht
Electricity Working Group), the Arbeitsgruppe
Deutsche Yachten (German Yacht Working
Group) and the Verband Deutscher Yacht-
Charterunternehmen (Association of German
Yacht Charter Companies).
The association also works on improving
the conditions in which its members
must operate. Tasks here include
the collection, processing and forwarding
of information that is generally not
available to individuals, the prepara-
tion of market data and statistics, the
provision of legal advice, the organization
of seminars and training events,
the promotion of exports and the lobbying
of politicians and administrations
at national and European level.
