Bucerius Summer Program in Mediation: July 22 to august 10, 2012
This summer we are proud to introduce the Bucerius Summer Program in Mediation.
The importance of conflict resolution and mediation skills in the (international) legal
practice has rapidly grown and evolved in recent years. In this highly interactive program,
participants learn how companies manage conflicts systematically and how conflict
resolution projects are designed and implemented. The coursework is combined
with personalized coaching from professional mediators in order to hone participants’
problem-solving and conflict resolution skills. The focus of the program is on “Businessto-Business
Mediation,” which will be addressed in four courses. The courses were
carefully selected to complement and build upon each other, so all four courses are
mandatory.

• Effective Representation in Mediation by Claudia Bernard and Howard Herman, USA
• The Legal Framework of Mediation by Professor Nadja Alexander, China
• The Psychological Foundations of Conflict Resolution by Dr. Jo Beatrix Aschenbrenner,
Germany.
BUCERIUS SUMMER PROGRaMS
The course-credit system in both programs is based on the guidelines of the american
Bar association (aBa), with one credit hour being equal to 700 minutes of classroom
time. Each course is worth one aBa credit (equal to 2 ECTS). Students must pass the
final examination in a course in order to receive credits. It is at their home universities’
discretion as to whether they will transfer credits or grades earned at Bucerius.
The programs take place on our campus in hamburg. In addition to a challenging acade-
mic program, students have the opportunity to participate in a series of extracurricular
activities in and around the city. additional information about both programs can be
