diffusionsdichte Rohrleitungen in industriell genutzten
Das passende Rohrleitungssystem musste außerdem die
Kontaminationsgefahr durch das vermutlich verunreinigte
Erdreich im Hafengebiet ausschließen. Erforderlich war
demnach ein Kunststoffrohrsystem, das sowohl für graben-
Following two years of planning and preparation it was clear
for the utility company, that open trench installation did not
come into question in the heavily built-up area of the industrial
logistics with delivery and removal of excavated soil and
subsequent restoration of the surface was not an alternative
for the planners. The new drinking water connection for the
ant protective coating made from mineral-reinforced polypropylene
that reliably protects the core pipe from damage
during trenchless insertion of the pipe. A diffusion-resistant
aluminium barrier layer between the core pipe and protective
coating additionally prevents the ingress of pollutants
into the water to be transported. The Dutch KIWA Institute
conducted tests in 1995 to verify the diffusion resistance of
the egeplast SLA ® Barrier Pipes and since then this pipe
system has been certifi ed with the product certifi cate BRL-K-
Conclusion:
After two years of planning the trenchless insertion of the pipe
the new drinking water connection for Shell in the heavily
Zertifi zierung nach PAS 1075
Für die Gesamtzertifi zierung von Rohrsystemen
nach PAS 1075 ist die Erfüllung von
zwei Testbereichen erforderlich: Die Werkstofftests
und die Bauteilprüfungen mit dem
Penetrationstest.
Grafi sche Darstellung der Bauteilprüfung Penetrationstest.
Diese Prüfung zur Gesamtzertifi zierung PAS 1075
erfüllen nur Rohrsysteme mit Schutzmantel.
Graphical representation of the component inspection
penetration test. This test for complete certifi cation in
accordance with PAS 1075 is only satisfi ed by pipe
systems with protective coating.
Der Penetrationstest simuliert das Eindringen
von scharfkantigen Steinen oder Altrohrscherben
nach dem Einbau von außen in
die Rohrwandung eines unter Innendruck
stehenden Rohres.
Vielfach wurde in der Vergangenheit das
potentielle Durchbohren einer grabenlos
die PAS 1075
Seit einigen Jahren werden unterschiedliche Polyethylenrohrsysteme
aus PE 100-RC von verschiedenen
Herstellern angeboten.
PAS 1075
A range of polyethylene pipe systems made
from PE 100-RC have been available from various
manufacturers for several years. PE 100-RC
stands for Resistance to Crack and therefore
indicates a PE 100 with signifi cantly improved
crack resistance. Until now there have been
no rules and regulations governing these pipe
systems. The user took decisions regarding the
appropriate pipe system to use for alternative
installation procedures solely on the basis of
manufacturer information and diverse test results
of RC raw materials.
In 2009 the PAS 1075 “Pipes made from polyethylene
for alternative installation techniques –
dimensions, technical requirements and testing”
was published by the Beuth Verlag in German
and English. It was drawn up by leading pipe
manufacturers, raw material suppliers and users
and as a publicly available specifi cation closes
the gap between the “state of the art” (experience/knowledge
from the fi eld, research and
development) and the “rules of engineering”
(DIN standards, German Association of Gas
and Water Engineers [DVGW] codes of practice
etc.). The new set of rules and regulations
supplements existing standards and guidelines
and describes a quality and safety level that
exceeds that in the applicable standards and
guidelines for standard installation.

verlegten Leitung durch anliegende spitze
Steine oder Graugussscherben diskutiert. Mit
Bestehen des Penetrationstests wird diese mögliche
Versagensursache nun ausgeschlossen.
Nur Rohrsysteme, die diese Anforderungen
erfüllen, dürfen bei potentiell in der Rohrzone
vorhandenen scharfen Steinen oder Scherben
mit dem Auslegungsbetriebsdruck MDP betrieben
werden. Bei Rohrsystemen, die diese Prüfung
nicht bestehen, muss der Betriebsdruck
abgemindert werden. Rohrsysteme ohne aufaddierte
Schutzschicht aus PP bestehen diese
Bauteilprüfung nicht.
Zu einer Gesamtzertifi zierung von Rohrsystemen
nach PAS 1075 durch einen unabhängigen
Zertifi zierer ist die Erfüllung der
Rohstoffanforderungen eine notwendige,
keinesfalls aber eine ausreichende Bedingung.
Entscheidend für den Eignungsnachweis
von Rohrsystemen für grabenlose Verlegetechniken
und die Zulassung ist das
Bestehen aller Bauteilprüfungen inkl. des
Penetrationstest.
Klassifi zierung der Rohrsysteme
nach PAS 1075
Die PAS 1075 legt Eigenschaften, Anforderungen
und Prüfverfahren für die Polyethylenwerkstoffe
(Werkstoffprüfung) und die
daraus gefertigten Rohre (Bauteilprüfung
mit Penetrationstest) für die alternativen Verlegetechniken
für eine Mindestnutzungsdauer
von 100 Jahren fest.
Erstmalig werden mit der PAS 1075 folgende
Rohrkonstruktionen klassifi ziert:
typ 1+2: Ein- oder Mehrschichtrohre aus
PE 100-RC ohne zusätzlich aufaddierten
PP-Schutzmantel sowie typ 3: Rohre aus
PE 100-RC mit zusätzlich aufaddiertem PP-
Schutzmantel.
Unstrittig ist in Fachkreisen, dass Rohrsysteme
mit zusätzlich aufaddiertem PP-Schutzmantel
einen deutlich höheren Schutz bei
alternativen Verlege- und Sanierungsverfahren
bieten als Ein- oder Mehrschichtrohre
aus PE 100-RC ohne zusätzlich aufaddierten
PP-Schutzmantel.
Mit Blick auf die fehlenden Regelwerke legt
egeplast in seinen technischen Unterlagen
bereits seit geraumer Zeit die Eignung der
verschiedenen Rohrkonstruktionen für verschiedene
Verlege- und Sanierungsverfahren
anforderungsgerecht fest.
So zählen das Berstlining sowie das
Spülbohren angesichts der Unwägbarkeiten
im Untergrund (Black Box)
sowie der fehlenden Möglichkeit einer
Qualitätssicherung zu den Verfahren
mit einem hohen potentiellen
Beschädigungsrisiko. Die bei egeplast
schon seit Jahren vollzogene
Produkt-Verfahrens-Einsatzempfehlung
– bekannt als die egeplast-Produktmatrix
(siehe Beilage in dieser
Ausgabe) – wird jetzt durch die
Testergebnisse im Rahmen der PAS
1075-Zertifi zierung bestätigt.
Die obenstehende Tabelle zeigt, inwiefern
verschiedene Rohrkonstruktionen
Certifi cation in accordance with
PAS 1075
It is necessary to satisfy two test areas in order
to achieve the complete certifi cation of
pipe systems in accordance with PAS 1075;
these are the material tests and the component
testings with the penetration test.
The penetration test simulates the external
penetration of sharp-edged stones
or shards of old pipes after installation
into the pipe wall of a pipe
subject to internal pressure.
The potential perforation of a
trenchless pipeline by sharp stones
or shards of cast iron has been
greatly discussed in the past. Passing
the penetration test now means
that this possible reason for failure
can be excluded. Only pipe systems
that satisfy these requirements
may be used in a pipe zone that
potentially has sharp stones or
shards at MDP, the maximum design
pressure. The operating pressure
must be reduced with pipe
systems that do not pass this test.
Pipe systems without added protective
layer made from PP do not pass
this component inspection.
Compliance with the raw material
requirements is a necessary condition
but is by no means adequate for complete
certifi cation of pipe systems by an independent
certifi er in accordance with PAS
The PAS 1075 classifi es the following pipe
constructions for the fi rst time:
types 1+2: single or multilayer pipes made
from PE 100-RC without added PP protective
coating and type 3: pipes made from PE
100-RC with added PP protective coating.
In circles of experts there is general agreement
that pipe systems with added PP protective
coating provide considerably greater
protection with alternative installation and
rehabilitation procedures than single or double
layer pipes made from PE 100-RC that
have no added PP protective coating.
In view of the lack of rules and regulations,
egeplast has been specifying the suitability
of the various pipe constructions for different
installation and rehabilitation procedures in
line with requirements in its technical documents
for some time. For example the unnoticeable
underground factors associated
with pipe bursting and horizontal directional
drilling (black box) and the absence of an
opportunity for quality assurance mean the
procedures are included among those with
a high potential risk of damage. The product/procedure
deployment recommendation
used by egeplast for some years, and
known as the egeplast product matrix (look
The fact that trenchless installation methods
represent an economic alternative
to open trench installation in a sand bed
is not disputed. The cost-effectiveness of
HDD procedures, relining and pipe bursting
can be further enhanced by using fl exible
plastic pipes.
Particularly where space is restricted, the
use of PE pipe systems with protective
coating enables the construction trenches
for starting and exit pits to have smaller
dimensions. The corresponding DVGW
codes of practice stipulate that the con-
its smaller bending radius to be fully exploited
Werner Ruckdeschel, Nassau Municipal Works
When at the start of 2009 the Local
Authority Utilities in Nassau heard that
Deutsche Telekom intended to begin installing
fi bre optic cables between Singhofen
and Nassau they quickly decided to look
into the possibility of also installing a composite
water pipeline between the sites. This
would be designed to enable both supply
groups to supply each other with drinking
water which would be an enormous advantage
in terms of supply reliability in the
event of a fault.
Project planning and the requirements
placed on the pipeline
A protective pipe for the new high pressure
polyethylene drinking water pipeline was laid
at the same time as the protective pipes for the
cables. The diffi cult terrain with an altitude difference
of 255 m across a pipe run of 1800
m necessitated an operating pressure
of 32 bar. A dimension of 110
x 10.0 mm ensured the requisite
hydraulic transportation capacity.
The HexelOne ® system deployed
in this composite water pipeline
has been certifi ed by TÜV Süd
since February 2010 and permits
applications at operating pressures
of up to 32 bar with a SF
of 1.25. Installation using 100 m
coils meant there were fewer pipe
joins and also permitted installation
to be ideally adapted to the
topography of the terrain.

nur aus Polyethylen. Diese Verstärkung
ermöglicht neue Einsatzgebiete
im Hochdruckbereich, also Betriebsdrücke
raised pressure pipes
The egeplast HexelOne ® Raised Pressure
system has been certifi ed by TÜV SÜD as
a complete system for use where there are
increased pressures.
The egeplast HexelOne ® pipe is a self-reinforced
high pressure pipe, and is a mono
composite made only from polyethylene.
This reinforcement enables new application
areas in the raised pressure area, i.e.
operating pressures that are greater than
those in applications previously covered
using PE pipes. The reason: it has twice
the pressure resistance compared to previous
polyethylene pipes.
The homogeneous material in the PE high
pressure pipe has 3 functional layers.
access holes could be excavated at suitable
places where the protective pipe would then
be opened, enabling the HexelOne ® pipes
to be inserted. The HexelOne ® coils were
laid out and unrolled parallel to the route of
the pipeline in order that they could then be
connected to the pipe lengths required for
the part runs. Pipe heaters were used (Fig. 6)
to straighten out any production-related kinks
in the coils. The introduction of defi ned and
regulated heat activates the memory effect in
the pipe wall which then returns the pipe to
its original stretched geometry and creates
ideal welding conditions.
A combination of the standardised electrofusion
and butt fusion welding procedures was
used to prepare the individual pipe runs of
480 m, 400 m, 330 m, 300 m and 290 m
and to guarantee the necessary pressure resistance.
Individual welds were carried out in
accordance with the guidelines and parameters
of DVS 2207. The separate pipe runs then
lay with their ends facing the access holes so
that they could be directly inserted without further
transportation on the grounds.
Insertion of the pipe runs
Pipe runs were inserted using a winch. The
runs of pipe were inserted uphill and downhill
without a problem. The low level of fric-
TIP-Verfahren saniert Schlauchliner
€/m verur sachte. Aufgrund der anschließend durchgeführten
TV-Inspektion (Schadensbild Versatzbildung, fehlende
Wandungsteile, Quer- und Längsrissbildung, undichte
Muffenverbindungen) entschied sich das Ingenieurbüro
MBS (Mendek Bau- und Sachverständigenbüro) für eine
sichere Sanierung im TIP-Verfahren. Hierbei werden Kurzrohre
aus Polypropylen (PP-HM) oder ein Rohrstrang aus
PE-HD (PE 100-RC) eng an die Altrohrwandung eingebaut,
was einen minimalen Querschnittsverlust beinhaltet.
By Dipl.-Ing. Markus Mendek and Dipl.-Ing. Jörg Sommer
Planners and mains operators should always focus on the
durability and therefore the cost-effectiveness of sewer rehabilitation.
The following example illustrates how a lack of
expert knowledge and the consequent incorrect selection
of material and method can quickly have exactly the opposite
effect.
In 2001 the Zentrum für Psychatrie in Ravensburg (client)
rehabilitated a DN 500 collector sewer using the pipe lining
method. After a few years pronounced dents had formed
while sections of the liner had collapsed completely. One
reason for this was the discharging of wastewater with temperatures
of up to 90°C from an industrial laundry connected
to the pipeline. However the EP-based liner used has a
glass transition temperature (transition from a vitreous state
to an amorphous state) of 70-80° C. The liner was therefore
not suitable for the rehabilitation case under consideration.
Kostenvergleich auf Knopfdruck
Cost comparison at the press of a button
A deformation measurement was conducted and revealed
that for the most part only 356 mm of the original available
nominal width was still present.
The static pipe bursting procedure and protective pipe coating
(SLM) had previously produced positive results when
replacing damaged pipe lining systems. These methods did
not come into question here, however, because the area of
the collector has been built over and the foundation area
has also been concreted.
The only remaining option was to mill the liner, which alone
led to a cost pool of approx. € 15,000.00 or € 120/m. The
subsequent CCTV inspection (showing the damage caused
by the formation of misaligned joints, missing wall parts, formulation
of transverse and longitudinal cracks and of leaky
sleeve joints) led the engineering consultants MBS (Mendek
Bau- und Sachverständigenbüro) to decide in favour of safe
rehabilitation using the TIP method. This involves inserting
The price for rehabilitation using the TIP method was approx.
€ 230/m plus the costs for opening and joining the connecting
pipelines, although these would also have arisen during
further rehabilitation using the pipe lining method. In a direct
comparison the fact that the service life was more than double
(80 – 100 years) proved decisive [1]. Replacing rehabilitation
measures as described above is also not a one-off case,
but has recently become noticeably more prevalent.
Experience shows that replacement procedures such as pipe
bursting or the TIP method are able to compete with established
pipe methods because they last longer and are therefore
cost-effective, and also not least because of new developments
in the installation technology and in pipe material. n
Schon jetzt werden aufgrund des Bevölkerungswachstums
viele alte, gegebenenfalls kontaminierte Industriefl ächen,
die sog. Brownfi elds, in Wohngebiete umgewandelt. Beim
Yorkshire Water and South West Water rely
on Barrier Pipes
Barrier pipes are increasingly being used in the UK when
transforming former industrial brownfi eld sites into residential
areas because these remove risk of contamination.
With approx. 60.2 million residents, the United Kingdom
has the third largest population in the European Union.
While this is currently the case the UK is predicted to overtake
Germany as the country with the largest population in
2060 according to studies conducted by the EU.
Population growth is already leading to several old, contaminated
industrial areas, the so-called brownfi eld sites,
being transformed into residential areas. The provision of

water supplies to these areas is therefore associated with
the risk of pollutants being diffused from the soil into the
newly installed drinking water pipelines. So-called Barrier
Pipes are used as a matter of principle as a preventive
measure.
Together with its sales partner Westwood Pipelines, egeplast
has been able to conclude two framework agreements
to supply SLA ® Barrier Pipes. Yorkshire Water and South
West Water will predominantly be supplied with egeplast
uK-VeRSIon
Barrier Pipes with dimensions 25-63 mm for house connections
and with potential OD 160 mm for main pipelines.
egeplast has adapted the pipe construction for the English
market and its requirements in line with the specifi c national
approval in accordance with WIS 4-32-19. In addition to
the pipes the system approval includes the connection technology
using welding and also using compression fi ttings
and hydraulic connectors.
To date over 140 km of Barrier Pipes with different dimensions
have been supplied and installed. n
Cool Down für das Kraftwerk Pocerady
14.300 m Kühlwasserleitung für den neuen
880 MW Kraftwerkblock
formulierte Aufgabenstellung lautete: Kontinuierliche
14,300 m of cooling water pipeline for the
new 880 MW power station block
The cooling water pipeline has been replaced as part of
building a new power station block with an output of 880
MW. In place of the old steel pipeline, 14,300 m of new
pipeline has been installed that is made from PE 100 and has
the dimensions OD 710 SDR 11.
The task specified by CEZ, the company that owns the power
station, was to provide a continuous supply of sufficient cooling
water to the power station block. The decision to use
polyethylene as the pipe material was greatly influenced by
its easy handling on the building site and the material’s flexibility.
Added advantages are that no encrustations form in PE
pipes and the corrosion-resistance of the material.
commenced at this early stage of the project. It was of help
when conducting the hydrostatic calculation of volume and
pressure loss to establish the requisite dimensions, when determining
whether or not compensators are needed and when
adapting the required fittings at the necessary pressure level.
The project consultancy resulted in invitations to tender for PE
Aufgrund von Korrosion und Inkrustationen
in und an der alten Stahlleitung
entschieden sich die Projektverantwortlichen,
für die neue
Leitung PE-Rohre einzusetzen.
Die Größenordnung der Baumaßnahme
stellte hohe Anforderungen
an die Logistik. Dies galt sowohl
für egeplast als auch für die Verlegefirma,
z.B. um die Rohrstränge
für die Verlegung vorzubereiten.
Four welding teams on site connected
the lengths of piping using
butt fusion welding.
Due to corrosion and encrustations
in and on the old steel pipeline,
those responsible for the project
decided to use PE pipes for the
new pipeline.
The scale of the building measure
placed high logistical demands
both on egeplast and on the installing
company to prepare the pipe
runs for installation.
pipes with OD 710 mm in SDR 11 including the necessary
moulded parts and fittings.
Installation of the new cooling water pipeline began in September
2009, and the first pipes were delivered to the building site
by truck. In order to be able to complete a project of this scale
on time, the installation team comprising four welding groups
worked round the clock on the new pipeline. The individual
trucks therefore delivered pipes according to a precise schedule
which was adhered to without a problem due to the logistics experience
with major pipe projects. The last pipes were delivered
according to schedule and the client’s requirements in February
2010. As a result of the experiences at this building site and the
extremely effective teamwork between planning engineer, client
and egeplast, the investor will also be using egeplast PE 100
pipes in future building measures involving pipes. n
glasfaserkabel
In Vorbereitung auf den Ausbau des Glasfasernetzes
in Essen hat Conlinet auf der
egeplast-Teststrecke unterschiedliche Glasfaserkabel
hinsichtlich der möglichen Ein-
blaslängen getestet. So konnten bereits vor
Beginn der Arbeiten Aussagen über die möglichen
Einblaslängen getroffen werden. Der
Ausbau des hochmodernen Glasfasernetzes
in Essen kann damit beginnen.
Im April 2010 fanden unter Teilnahme der
Firmen Draka, Prysmian und egeplast Procable
umfangreiche Einblasversuche von Glasfaserkabeln
auf der werkseigenen egeplast-
Die Ergebnisse waren teilweise erstaunlich: Je
nach Kabeltyp wurden sehr unterschiedliche
Einblaslängen erreicht. Die Längen differierten
dabei zwischen 150 m und mehr als 1400 m.
Die Versuche wurden von allen Beteiligten als
sehr praxisnah und aussagekräftig bewertet.
Herr Becker (Geschäftsführer der Conlinet
fi bre optic cable
In preparation for the expansion of the fi bre
different fi bre optic cables at the egeplast
test facility to ascertain their possible injection
lengths. This provided information on
possible injection lengths even before work
started, and as a result the process of expanding
the modern fi bre optic network in
Essen can now begin.
egeplast Review
Juli / July 2010
13
Extensive injection tests with fi bre optic cables
were conducted in April 2010 by the
companies Draka, Prysmian and egeplast
Procable at egeplast’s own test facility in
Greven. Cables with 12 and 24 fi bres from
the manufacturers Draka and Prysmian were
injected into an egecom Microduct Multi db
24x7 x1.5 + 1x14x2. This involved injecting
a total of fi ve different fi bre optic cables and
comparing the injection lengths.
Some of the results were extremely surprising:
very different injection lengths were achieved
depending on the type of cable. Lengths varied
between 150 m and more than 1400 m.
All of those involved considered the trials to be
both practical and signifi cant. Mr. Becker (Managing
Director of the Conlinet projects) concluded
by emphasising: “The trials at egeplast have
defi nitely prevented us from making the wrong
decision in terms of cable selection because
the type of cable we favoured initially did not
achieve the anticipated injection lengths.”
We are particularly pleased that we have
been able to make a contribution to ensuring
the success of a customer project.
