The IONA building
Dublin (UCD) were started as well.
The Faculty IV cooperates with
the "Celtic Tiger" in several ways:
– Master and diploma thesises
were jointly executed, partially
including funded student
internship placements in
IONA’s Dublin headquarter
with topics such as "Open
Source based Software Stack
for Service Oriented Architectures
(SOA)", which 2007
resulted in a publication within
the book "SOA Expertenwissen",
"Combination of OSGi
and Enterprise Service Bus
(ESB) technology", which
allows to combine small or
embedded devices such as
PDAs with service oriented
architectures (ongoing work)
and „High availability and fault
tolerance solutions in open
source ESB’s (ongoing work).
– A bachelor project combined
SOA technologies with Computer
Grids that combine
several heterogeneous computers
to become a virtual super
computer – here examined for
smaller environments (recently
finished).
– IONA funded 15 full Orbix
Enterprise licences, list price
150.000 Euro to be used for
applied research and regular
master study lecturing.
– A book on "Enterprise Application
Integration" was 2005
co-authored by Roland Tritsch
(IONA’s head of services) and
Arne Koschel (FHH).
– Research cooperation such as
presentations from both partners
or lecturing exchange is
currently examined with the
UCD, distributed systems and
performance engineering lab.
Based on the successful results
achieved so far, the Faculty IV is
looking forward to further cooperation
with Irish partners.
