After completing my schooling, Ienrolled in Bachelor of Commerce at HinduCollege, Sonipat, a renowned college ofthose times. While I was pursuing my degreein the Bachelor of Commerce, I had fostereda dream to pursue a career as a CharteredAccountant. In 1983, I received admissioninto the Institute of Chartered Accountants.After rigorous articling with a leading taxconsulting firm in Delhi, and going througha series of tough intermediate and finalexamination I became a qualified CharteredAccountant 1987.When & Why You came to CanadaIn 1994, I got married toRenu Arora who wasresiding in Winnipeg, Manitoba as aCanadian citizen and subsequent to ourwedding, my wife relocated in India to livewith me till 2001. I had no intention of settlingin Canada at that time as I was enjoying mypersonal and professional life in India to thefullest.After marriage, I continued to practice as aChartered Accountant and obtained valuableexperience with a consulting firm for about3 to 4 years.Subsequently, I established myown practice in Delhi. I began to serve thetax, accounting, and auditing needs of smallbusinesses. While in practice for 10 years,multinational companies of that era werebeginning to expand in India. As a result,there was a growing demand for CharteredAccountants who also held a CPA degreefrom the United States of America. Thistriggered within me a sense of desire toobtain a US CPA degree to enable me toexpand my CA practice. My ambition anddetermination to obtain a US CPA Degreeto enhance my professional certificationpersuaded me to immigrate to Canada. Iarrived in Winnipeg, Canada as permanentresident in 2002.Your career advancement initiatives,volunteer work and present occupationI received my US CPA degree in 2004 andalso pursued a Canadian CPA program(CGA) to obtain a degree from the Canadianinstitute of Chartered Accountant. Later on,Rajeev AroraI received my Canadian CPA degree in 2006.In January 2007, I moved to Edmonton to joinDeloitte in their US Tax Services upon receivinga job offer. In 2013, I completed my Masters inUS Taxation from Golden Gate University, SanFrancisco. It was a four -year intensiveprogram which further enhanced myprofessional knowledge and expertise in theUS taxation. The U.S. Master’s programequipped me with the confidence, skills andknowledge to serve my employer with topquality and service on a variety of their taxcompliance and planning matters. In 2015, Iwas promoted to Senior Manager, which wasa huge milestone for my career at the time.After my Masters degree and promotion toSenior Manager, I continued to serve withpassion and dedication in order to exceed thejob requirements. During my 14-year tenureworking with Deloitte US Tax services, I alsohad the opportunity to hire and train severalgrowing tax professionals in our team. Recentlyin January 2021, I was humbled to receive apromotion to the role of Director,USTaxservices – one of the most aspiredleadership roles one could dream for inDeloitte, the world’s largest accounting andconsulting firm.While working full-time with Deloitte, I alsoconceived the thought to serve the communitythrough volunteerism. As part of this, Ivolunteered at several charitable/culturalorganizations, such as the MustardSeed, Chrysalis, Hindu Society of Alberta, andthe Maanaw Seva Association, Edmonton.I have been involved as a Board Member atthe Hindu Society of Alberta since 2013. Withinthis duration, I have held executive positionsserving as both V.P. Communication and V.P.Administration for about four years. Currently,I am serving as a Director of Hindu Society ofAlberta.In the Maanaw Seva Association, I served asPresident from 2015 to 2017. Maanaw SevaAssociation supports underprivileged childrenby financially supporting a school in remotevillage in India providing free education toabout 300 children who belong to very poorfamilies.Your Regret in LifeI wish I would’ve listened to my wife and movedto Canada earlier in 1994 to settle here aftermarriage!However, a few things are not in our control.They come with time as per your destiny. Lifeis too short to wake up in the morning withregrets. So love the people who treat you right,forget about the ones who don’t. Believe thateverything happens for a reason. If you get achance, take it. If itchanges your life,let it.Pick Any One ofYour BestAchievementsTo be promoted tothe role of Director,US Tax Services atDeloitte is one ofmy most cherishedachievements. Itwas my dream andthe goal which I hadset for myself aboutthree years ago. Iam thankful to mycolleagues, TaxPartners at Deloitte,and of my coursemy family whosupported me inthis journey.Were You EverDiscriminated?Fortunately, I havenever experienceddiscrimination. However, discrimination ispresent in many different shapes and formsaround us, and we should do our best to finda way to combat.Are You Happy in Canada?Yes, I am very happy with the quality of life inCanada. In my view, the opportunities are hugeand unlimited in this country for one to growand rise. Sky is the limit! Moreover, happinessmultiplies when you share your growth,knowledge, and success with others, and Itruly believe in this philosophy of life.Another part of my happiness is my family –my wife, daughter, and son.Any Comments on Canada’s CultureCanada is one of the best multiculturalcountries, a pluralistic society where we havethe opportunity to peacefully coexist and learnfrom one another. We are fortunate that alongwith learning from one another, we are able topractice our own culture, religion, and the wayof life. Additionally, I am proud that the firm Iwork with (Deloitte) is one which fosters thecore values of cultural diversity and giving backto the community.Any Comments on Canada’s WeatherWhen I first moved to Canada in 2002, I wasalmost determined to go back to India afterliving through the first winter in Winnipeg! Itwas really tough in the first couple of years,especially in Winnipeg where the wintertemperature dips as low as minus 40 to 45degree Celsius. However, I slowly began torealize that the seasons are transient, andwe must adapt to the course of nature.What Brought You Success in Canada?In my view, there is no shortcut to success.Hard work, passion, determination,perseverance, and the support from mentorsare all important elements which havecontributed to my success in Canada.Of course, my significant half, Renu Arorastood with me through thick and thin.Are You Willing to Help New Immigrantsand How?I am more than willing to help newcomersand immigrants with my knowledge andexperience, as I strongly believe in givingback to the society. Anyone who wants topursue a career in US or Canadian taxationis more than welcome to reach out to me.
