Die Branche blickt derzeit
nach Düsseldorf, wo
in Kürze die Branchenleitmesse
wire 2008
stattfindet.
Was Sie „eben -
Messestand. Die Vorteile dieser Glühen für die Fertigung
von Drähten aus Kupferlegierungen entnehmen
Sie dem Beitrag nebenan.
Die Entwicklung zukunftsweisender Technologien
und Maschinen wäre ohne Zusammenarbeit mit
Kundenunternehmen nicht möglich. Zwei dieser
Dear Friends of NIEHOFF,
All eyes in the wire and cable industry are currently on
Düsseldorf where the leading trade show wire 2008 is
due to be staged shortly. The number of exhibitors has
increased once again, which underlines the importance
of the trade fair, but has also created the difficulty
for some exhibitors of not being able to extend
their exhibition space accordingly. In order to be able
to provide a representative range of our products nevertheless,
we at NIEHOFF have moved up on the first
floor and now wish to invite you to visit us for the first
time at a two-storey stand (10C18). What you will be
able to see at „ground level“ we explain on pages 4
and 5 of this issue of NIEHOFF-News. Some new developments
may appear somewhat insignificant at first
glance, but they certainly have something special, for
example the new opto-electronic traversing system
NBAT, which we will be demonstrating to you integrated
in a D631 bunching machine. This system, which
you can read about in more detail on page 6, enables
flawless stranded wires. This is the precondition for the
further processing of the strands at high speed and
without any risk of damaging them.
Another new development is the use of the RI series induction
annealers from the joint venture NBM for data
cable production. We will be showing you one of these
systems on the trade fair stand. You can read about the
advantages of this form of annealing for the production
of wires made from copper alloys in the report opposite.
The development of future-oriented technologies and
machines would not be possible without cooperation
with client companies. We would like to introduce you
E d i t o r i a l
Liebe Freunde des Hauses NIEHOFF,
Unternehmen möchten wir Ihnen in dieser
Ausgabe der NIEHOFF-News vorstellen. In
dem auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite abgedruckten
Interview spricht Herr Hentschel
von der Auto-Kabel Managementgesellschaft
über den Einsatz von Aluminiumkabeln
im Fahrzeugbau. Wegen der spezifischen
Werkstoffeigenschaften lassen sich
die für Kupferdraht bewährten Verfahren
nicht ohne weiteres auf Aluminium übertragen.
Das andere Unternehmen ist die in
Köln beheimatete nkt cables group, die die Tradition
der Felten & Guilleaume Kabelwerke fortführt
(Seite 7).
to two such companies in this issue of
NIEHOFF-News. In the interview printed on
the opposite page, Mr Hentschel of Auto-Kabel
Managementgesellschaft talks about the
use of aluminum cables in vehicle construction.
Due to the specific properties of the materials,
it is not possible to simply take the service-proven
processes which are appropriate
for copper and apply them to aluminum. The
other company is the Cologne-based nkt cables group,
which continues the traditions of the Felten &
Guilleaume Kabel werke (page 7). One of the remarkable
things about this company is that in spite of having
to relocate it has remained faithful to its home city
and demonstrated that it is also possible for firms in
the wire and cable industry to be competitive even
with operations in countries with relatively high wage
costs when applying efficient production lines.
Other noteworthy events are reported in the news
page, including the meeting of the members of the
„Intercable“ cable manufacturers association,
Moscow, which took place last December close to
NIEHOFF headquarters in Nuremberg and provided
delegates with the opportunity to gain a picture of
production at NIEHOFF (page 8).
Upstairs
We look forward to welcoming you to our trade fair
stand (10C18) in Düsseldorf and would also highly recommend
a visit to our neighbouring NIEHOFF-BÜHLER
NBM (10D18) stand.
I hope you enjoy reading this issue of NIEHOFF-News.
Drähte aus Kupferlegierungen:
RI-Induktionsglühen erzeugen
herausragende Eigenschaften
Kupferwerkstoffe bilden eine der
größten Gruppen unter den industriell
genutzten Metallen. Nach
Aussagen des Internet-Lexikons
Wikipedia gibt es etwa 400 Kupferlegierungen,
die wegen ihrer
besonderen Kombination aus
technologischen Eigenschaften
auf vielen Engineering-Gebieten
gefragt sind. Zu den Anwendungsmöglichkeiten,
die an Bedeutung
gewinnen, gehören Erodierdraht
(EDM-Draht), Draht für
Batteriepins und Stifte für Micro-
Plugs sowie Draht für Siebe und
Filter.
Da viele Kupferlegierungen eine
niedrige Leitfähigkeit für Strom
und Wärme haben, lassen sich
Drähte aus Kupferlegierungen auf
den für Kupferdraht entwickelten
Widerstands-Durch -
laufglühen nur schwer glühen.
Um die Vorteile des kontinuierlichen
Glühens auch für diese
Drähte nutzen zu können, hat
das Gemeinschaftsunternehmen
NIEHOFF-BÜHLER GmbH
NBM die induktiv-konduktiv
arbeitenden Durchlaufglühen
Typ RI entwickelt, die mit
Walzdraht-, Mittelzugund
Feindrahtzieh ma schi -
nen kom biniert werden
können. Die RI-Glühen arbeiten
nach dem (berührungslosen)
Induktionsprinzip und erzeugen
Draht mit einer
sehr hohen Oberflächenqualität
und einem feinkörnigen,
homogenen
Gefüge, das ihm sehr
gute VerarbeitungsundUmformeigenschaften
gibt. Die RI-
Copper materials constitute one
of the major groups of industrial
metals. According to the
Wikipedia Internet encyclopedia
there are about 400 copper alloys
which are demanded by many
fields of engineering because of
their particular combination of
technological properties. Some
applications which gain importance
are electrical discharge machining
(EDM) wire, wire for battery
pins and pins for micro-plugs,
and wires for sieves and filters. Because
many copper alloys have
low electrical and heat conduction
characteristics, copper alloy wires
are difficult to anneal in continuous
resistance annealers designed
for copper. In order to use the advantages
of this technology for
these wires too, the joint venture
company NIEHOFF-BÜHLER GmbH
NBM has developed the RI continuous
inductive annealers which
can be combined with rod break-
Copper alloy wires:
fach bedienen bei deutlich verringerten
Betriebskosten, weil keine
Kohlebürsten, Schleifringe, Riemen
und Antriebe benötigt werden.
Die RI-Glühen eignen sich besonders
gut für Rund-, Flach- und Profildrähte
mit einfachem Querschnitt
aus Kupfer, Kupferlegierungen,
Edelmetallen und deren
Legierungen, Nickel und Nickel -
legierungen, und für Verbunddrähte
wie kupferbeschichtetes
Aluminium (Copper Clad Alu -
minum, CCA) und kupferbeschichteten
Stahl (CCS).
Auf der Fachmesse wire 2008 sind
die Versionen RI 170 und RI 250
dieser Induktionsglühen zu sehen
(Seiten 4 und 5).
RI annealers create
outstanding properties
down, intermediate and fine wire
drawing machines. The RI annealers
operate on the basis of the
(non-contacting) induction principle
and create wires with an excellent
surface quality and a fine
grained, homogeneous micro -
structure that gives it very good
processing and forming properties.
The RI annealers are easy to
operate at considerably reduced
operational costs because no carbon
brushes, sliprings, belts and
drives are needed.
The RI annealers are very well suited
for round, flat and profile wires
with a simple cross-section made
of copper, copper alloys, precious
metals and their alloys, nickel and
nickel alloys, and composite wires
like Copper Clad Aluminum (CCA)
or copper clad steel (CCS).
At the wire 2008 trade show the
RI 170 and RI 250 inductive annealer
versions are on display (s.
pages 4 and 5).
