Wien ist immer eine Versuchung wert // Vienna offers plenty of temptations
Auch wenn im November die ersten trüben Tage ins Land
ziehen, ist Wien eine Versuchung wert – ob in Form von
flaumigen Buchteln, beschwingten Musikfestivals oder einem
Beatles-Revival. Das Haus der Musik wartet diesen
Herbst mit neuen Klangattraktionen auf und im Schuberthaus
begibt man sich mit einer neuen Ausstellung schon auf
Winterreise. Und wussten Sie, dass jeder Wiener täglich 218
Liter Wasser verbraucht und die Wiener Linien jährlich 875
Millionen Fahrgäste zählen?
Ausgestopfte Tiere im Museumslager, Orte
im Schatten der Gesellschaft und Porträts von
Schriftstellern: kaum eine Institution, die sich
im „Monat der Fotografie“ nicht von ihrer
fotografischen Seite zeigt. Eine Seite, die bekanntlich
viele Gesichter hat. Unter anderem
auch ein in die Jahre gekommenes.
Von schön bis schräg
Und so blicken die Besucher im Bezirksmuseum
Amerlinghaus bei der Ausstellung „Coming
of Age“ in ihre eigene Zukunft, während
das Wien Museum mit Hans Scheugl einen
Blick in die Vergangenheit der Stadt und ihrer
Bewohner wirft.
Mit gleich fünf unterschiedlichen Fotoausstellungen
wartet hingegen das Künstlerhaus auf.
Die Palette reicht von Architekturfotografie
über Alltagsaufnahmen bis zur Gruppenschau
zum Thema Selbstporträt. Ein Thema, das
auch die Surrealisten interessierte. Porträts von
Breton, Buñuel & Co sind im Kunst Haus
Wien zu bestaunen. Aufgenommen wurden sie
– ebenso wie jene von Arnulf Rainer und Andy
Warhol – mit einem Fotoautomaten. Ebenfalls
zum Staunen regen die unzähligen Erscheinungsformen
des Londoner Künstlers Leigh
Bowery in der Kunsthalle an. Ungewöhnliches
erwartet die Besucher aber auch bei der Ausstellung
„distURBANces“ im MUSA (Museum
Startgalerie Artothek). Die Schau zeigt in
Zusammenarbeit mit sieben Partnerstädten
Bilder von Utopien und Dystopien. Sie ist
damit eine von rund 220 Ausstellungen und
Veranstaltungen, die im Rahmen des „Europäischen
Monats der Fotografie“ in Wien über
die Bühne gehen.

new attractions to explore the world of sounds, and an

And did you know that the daily per-capita consumption of
water in Vienna is 218 litres and that the public transport
system has an annual 875 million passengers?

archive, places in the shadows of society, and
portraits of writers: there’s hardly any institution
in Vienna that doesn’t take part in the
Month of Photography that highlights the
many faces this medium has to offer.
Weird and wonderful
It is also a medium with a history and a future.
In fact, at the Coming of Age exhibition at the
district museum in the Amerlinghaus visitors
can look into their own future, while Wien Museum’s
exhibition of Hans Scheugl’s work looks
at the city and its inhabitants as they once were.
The Künstlerhaus offers no less than five different
photo exhibitions, ranging from architectural
photography and everyday photos
Enjoy Vienna! Ihre Dagmar Koller
to a group exhibition on the subject of selfportraits,
a theme that also interested the Surrealists.
Portraits of Breton, Buñuel and the
rest can be admired at the Kunst Haus Wien.
They were taken – as were the self-portraits of
Arnulf Rainer and Andy Warhol – in photo
booths. Meanwhile, the countless self-presentations
of the eccentric London artist Leigh
Bowery can be admired in the Kunsthalle. Another
unusual exhibition is distURBANces at
the MUSA (Museum Startgalerie Artothek):
curated together with seven partner cities it
shows images of utopias and dystopias. It is
one of around 220 exhibitions and events
taking part in the city during the European
Month of Photography.
