Recht, dass die Stadtplanung oder Architektur durchaus,
in meiner Sprache hieße das, auf die Gestaltbarkeit
von räumlichen Umgebungen setzen sollte und auf die
Möglichkeit, dass etwas wachsen kann. Ich habe den
Eindruck, dass in unseren städtebaulichen Aktionen der
Gestaltungswille gar nicht vorhanden ist. Die Auswirkungen
erleben wir als Psychologen teilweise in der Pathologie
und in der Psychopathologie. Herr Breyvogel hat es in
Bezug auf Jugendkultur und auf die Unbewohnbarkeit
unserer Städte ja auch schon erwähnt. Wir erleben die
Unbewohnbarkeit unserer Städte, um Mitscherlich noch
mal zu zitieren, und ich glaube, dagegen kann man
durchaus etwas tun. Das heißt aber, weniger ist mehr.
Wir leiden zurzeit unter einer Art ‘déformation professionnelle’
– alles was machbar ist, wird gemacht und
es muss möglichst perfekt sein.

irgendwelche wichtigen
Diskurse.

Mir fällt dazu das Buch „Das unfertige Bauen“ („Building
the unfinished“), von Lars Lerup ein. Das Haus verändert
sich und die Stadt verändert sich, wir verändern uns und
trotzdem ist darin immer noch etwas Statisches. Es ist
schwer zu formulieren, aber es fehlt heute die Offenheit.
Design ist beliebt, die Leute wollen das Repräsentative
und das Unscheinbare wird nicht geschätzt. Aber darin
liegt die Qualität dessen, was Heimat sein möchte. Schulze-

and the city changes, we change and yet within this change
there is still something static. It is hard to explain, but
nowadays frankness is a rare thing. Design is popular,
people want representativeness, and the inconspicuous is
not valued. But within this lies what ‘home’ wants to be.
Schulze-Naumburg here and Schulze-Naumburg there,
Riepel and Toennis and all those books are very important,
and perhaps those books are also ‘home’. But I believe that
a conversation with some-one, even with the lady at the
bakery in the morning, often has more meaning than any
high-ranking discourse. And therefore I would say that a life
as it is lived is always more beautiful than other forms, even
than the one we are trying to construct right now.

to use. In Essen, for instance, there is the Imperfect
House, and the name of this house implies programme.
