What more needs to be said about antiz besides they are a real
skateboarding crew. not a company or business with profits as their main
goal but a group of skaters who like to live, breath, travel and skateboard
together. if there is an antiz tour its very possible that several of the guys
will start the trip on the injured list. Why? because its more important
that the entire crew gets to hang out and travel together than to save a
few dollars and have only guys who are going to skate for the photos and
video. that is what a real road trip is about, hanging out with your friends
and having a good time wherever you are. to quote one of the uSa’s lesser
known rippers Sloppy Sam. “Sometimes skateboarding involves not
skateboarding.”
for this episode of updates from the West i bring you the topic of
what euro’s are hot in the states. actually gernot assigned it to me to
write about. it’s tough for any skater to come up and get sponsored now
a days. actually it’s always been tough but now more than ever. everyone
is great on a board and only a few are exceptional. it’s even tougher for a
euro to come up in the states. a company has to be willing to make a real
investment in them because it often involves having to make arrangements
for a Visa so the sponsors have to have more faith in this guy than they
would a uS skater whom they would only have to give a few boards to
and throw him in the van. With that in mind europe continues to produce
amazing skaters and some of the most amazing get recognized in the states
but not always right away. take Pfanner and forstner. both of those guys
have been killing it for years. you last try readers know that and a few of
us in the uS have known that but only recently have those two been getting
regular uS attention and it looks as both are here to stay.
a few others that have been on the recent come up are
Willow and ben raemers. both relative unknowns to us in the states until
a couple years ago and now they are both on solid uS teams and in the ad
rotation. raemers has been shooting a grip of photos with the uS photogs
while living in the San Jose area and Willow just made the move to almost
and was brought on thrasher’s king of the road with etnies.
but the big news right now if the re uniting of europe’s two
gnarliest skaters ever! arto is back on flip and you know geoff couldn’t be
happier. it’s been a decade since they were back to back thrasher Skater of
the year, but both of those guys are two of the most determined motivated
skaters out there. extremely Sorry and mind field should be enough proof
that despite being ten years past the typical pro’s peak both of those guys
are capable of cranking out gnarly skating that we have come to expect
from them.
What’s more exciting is who’s next. With you tube video
parts being viewed worldwide skaters from all over the globe are exposed
to amazing skating despite the efforts of censorship of western influence.
look at madar’s apse. emerging from latvia, he is one of the best skaters
to surface fully raised in a post Soviet era. Who will be the next skater to
emerge from the fall of the Soviet union? the real mystery is when is a
professional skateboarder that was born and raised in china going to come
about?
