Dear TKE Parents,
THE FANNIE & JOE MARGOLIN RELIGIOUS SCHOOL
I suppose this is the appropriate time to share
with you the details of the visitation weekend
recently experienced and to thank each of you
for the part you played in making the weekend
a success. Yes! The weekend was a success,
regardless of what the ultimate results might
prove. I do believe within my heart of hearts
that we passed all tests and that we will receive our papers. I do
want to remind you though, that there are times when we expect
something to happen only to find that we have miscalculated,
though I don’t anticipate that in this case. I am reminded of a
story I once heard of one woman who was guilty of just such an
error. Let me share it with you.
A young lady was waiting for her flight in the boarding room of a
big airport. As she would need to wait many hours, she decided to
buy a book to read during this time. She also bought a packet of
cookies. She sat down in an armchair, in the VIP room at the
airport, to rest and read in peace. Beside the armchair where the
packet of cookies lay, a man sat down in the next seat, opened his
magazine and started reading.
When she took out the first cookie, the man took one also. She
felt irritated, but said nothing. She just thought: “What a nerve! If
I was in the mood I would punch him for being so daring!” For
each cookie she took, the man took one, too. This was infuriating
her more and more, but she didn’t want to cause a scene. When
only one cookie remained, she thought, “Ah... What’s this man
going to do now?”
Then, the man, taking the last cookie, divided it into half, giving
her one half. Ah! That was too much! She was much too angry
now! In a huff, she took her book, her things and stormed to the
boarding place.
When she sat down in her seat, inside the plane, she looked into
her purse for her eyeglasses, and, to her surprise, her packet of
cookies was right there, untouched, unopened! She felt so
ashamed! She realized that she was wrong. She had forgotten that
she put her cookies in her purse. The man had divided his cookies
with her without feeling angered or bitter...while she had been
very angry, thinking that she was dividing her cookies with him.
And now there was no chance to explain herself...nor to
apologize.
There are four things that you cannot recover.
The stone...after the throw!
The word...after it’s said!
The occasion...after the loss!
The time...after it’s gone!
We need to always remember that the story is never over until the
last chapter has been written.
Respectfully,
Dr. Sandy Andron
TKE Director of Education
RSPG Notes
KUDOS to the TKE Fanny and Joe Margolin Religious School!
Dr. Andron, the teaching staff, the volunteers from RSPG and
many others participated in an evaluation by the NATE
(National Association of Temple Educators) team for
accreditation of our religious school. If we receive the
accreditation, TKE will have the only accredited religious
school in Georgia. At the time of this writing, word is not yet
official about receiving the accreditation, but the feedback from
the evaluators was very positive. The process has been a long
one, with a detailed evaluation over the past two years, finally
resulting in a personal site evaluation by the NATE team the
last weekend in February. All involved conducted themselves
with the utmost professionalism and received the highest of
compliments from the NATE team. We should all feel proud
and privileged to know that we are sending our children to one
of the best religious school programs in all of Georgia.
Fundraising has been successful this semester! Thank you to all
who have supported the efforts of the latest fundraisers. First,
thank you to Dan Weinberg and his seventh, eighth and ninth
graders who cooked those savory burgers to raise money for the
Ner Tamid project. Over $300 was raised. The Passover
Barton’s candy sale was also a huge success, bringing in over
$1,000 to help the religious school with supplies and textbooks.
Looks like we are a hungry congregation!
Happy and zissen (sweet) Passover. Passover is literally around
the corner with the first seder on Saturday, April 19. Please
note that because of public school vacation dates and
observance dates for Passover, THERE WILL BE NO
RELIGIOUS SCHOOL SUNDAY SESSIONS FOR THE
ENTIRE MONTH OF APRIL. Please check the calendar for
appropriate in-session dates for Tuesday and Wednesday
classes.
It is almost time to wrap up the school year. Please consider
volunteering for year-end clean up or room parent or school
office helper next year. Volunteering is a great way for others
to get to know you and for you to get to know others. Besides,
who among us really has so much free time that we can do this
alone? If we all help a small amount, then overall a greater
amount of work gets done.
You may soon receive a survey or phone call regarding various
programming as it relates to your child’s class. Please be
thoughtful with your answers. Suggestions for future
programming are welcome.
