A close shave,
for a good
cause
Every year the Fortescue
family throws its
considerable fundraising
abilities behind the
Leukaemia Foundation
by raising funds for the
World’s Greatest Shave, via
the Mining Challenge.
This year was no exception, with
events at our sites proving once
again that we’re a giving group of
people with deep pockets.
Events at Port Hedland had to be
postponed because of Cyclone
Lua, but ultimately went ahead.
Fundraisers across all of our sites
ranged from BBQ’s and quiz nights
to chest waxing, with support for the
Leukaemia Foundation eclipsing all
of our past efforts.
Several Fortescue family members
took up the challenge for 2012,
collectively raising over $80,000 for
the Foundation.
Cloudbreak mining operator Carina
Skipworth and Perth’s Peter Thomas
raised more than $25,000 each
through various events.
Several Perth based team members
gave up their locks as well. Crispin
Harris from IT, Matt Sinclair from
Purchasing, Jonathan Davies from
Environment, Clint Hounsham from
Planning, Colin Dowson from Safety
all agreed to a quick clip from Alana
Kongras.
A very special mention has to go
to Damien Grainger from Morris at
Castle Camp who agreed to have his
chest and arms waxed after $2,700
was raised in just four days. Based
on the images, it looks like Damien’s
pain was shared by his colleagues.
