May 6, 2011 PFC. Jonathan M. Villanueva returned home as a fallen warrior. Becomes
the 13th person to be returned through NAS JAX. Personnel again turn out to
pay their respects along Yorktown Avenue.
May 17, 2011 Groundbreaking ceremony for new $6.4M All Hands Club. The design and
construction of a single story, 25K square foot facility to include a
Bingo/Banquet Hall, a Chief Petty Officer's Club, a Casual Dining
Restaurant/Lounge, a full kitchen and administrative offices. Construction
scheduled for Fall 2012 completion.
May 19, 2011 The 27 th and final aircraft to be painted in the formal Heritage Paint Project for
the Centennial of Naval Aviation is turned over to VT-10, part of Training
Wing Six, (NAS Pensacola) at a ceremony at NAS JAX.

from FRCSE.

June 9, 2011 HSL-44 changes to HSM-74. New Child Development Center, building 2070,
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. New facility is located on Mustin Road.
July 1, 2011 Fleet Industrial Supply Center Jacksonville changes name to Naval Supply
Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Jacksonville.
July 23, 2011 Lighted sign that states “Naval Air Station Jacksonville” installed on new
overhead pedestrian bridge on Yorktown Avenue.
Sept. 7, 2011 Grand opening of new Naval Hospital Jacksonville’s completed $60M
renovation.
Sept. 8, 2011 Florida Gov. Rick Scott visits the station for a day of work.
Sept. 10, 2011 Station has remembrance ceremony for the 10 th Anniversary of 9/11.
Oct. 13, 2011 Maynard “Snakeman” Cox, long-time safety office employee, known for his
colorful safety stand down presentations and for catching snakes on the base
for over 25 years, passes away.
Nov. 4-6, 2011 NAS JAX “Centennial of Naval Aviation” Air Show held. Overcast clouds;
windy and cold weather and a low ceiling on Sunday caused a reduced crowd
estimated at 160,000. (Blue Angels leave in formation to head to Pensacola.)
