MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN
Scholarly works on law -- especially those published as books, chapters, and journal articles
-- advance every aspect of this school's mission. The works themselves, of course,
advance knowledge about the law and allied disciplines. What is perhaps less readily understood
is the connection between our school's teaching and scholarly missions. Preparing
works of scholarship, like no other activity, keeps our faculty members at the cutting
edge of the law. As a result, the best teachers in this profession as a rule are the best
scholars, and the best scholars typically rank among our best teachers.
This catalog reports the our faculty's enduring contributions to legal education, the legal
profession, and the broader communities served by lawyers and law professors, Each
page presents the snapshot of an individual career "dedicated to the higher training and
useful education of [our] aspiring youth." Those words, inscribed inside the rotunda of
the University of Louisville's central administration building, describe and inspire what we
do every day. Over all the days that have comprised our collective careers, we have
taught students, served the community, and produced the finest scholarship our minds
can frame. As a record of what we have accomplished and hope yet to achieve, this catalog
represents a record of our scholarly legacy and a statement of our scholarly promise.

This catalog represents the first comprehensive list of publications
by the law faculty of the University of Louisville. The most reliable
measure of an academic faculty's distinction is its body of scholarship,
produced over the course of its individual members' careers
and presented in its entirety. I am proud to present the scholarly
record of the University of Louisville's Louis D. Brandeis School of
