Change in rules results in 38 new members
This year is historic for UWC as
we expand our membership to include
women graduates of KU.
Many people worked hard to get
the word out about this change.
Gwen Dobson and Carladyne
Conyers did a great job of finding
effective ways to announce the
change, which included working
with the Lawrence Journal World
and the KU Alumni Magazine.
Jennifer Sanner, vice president for
communications at the KU Alumni
Association (and speaker at our
Feb. 7 program) was very helpful
and shared the association’s re-
One problem with forming a new
group is who will lead and get it
organized. If two or three people
want to have a group, they can
work together and share responsibilities.
Groups have the option of
meeting as many or as few times
as they want, depending on the
nature of the programs.
sources to identify potential
alumnae members in the area.
Using its data base, the association
sent out an email from Sally
Brandt to these women inviting
them to join UWC.
I emailed copies of the “Come
Join Us” document and membership
form to those who contacted
me as a result of these efforts.
As a result of our hard work, we
have 39 new members. I know
the New Members and Friends
Committee will do a great job of
making these women feel welcome,
but it is up to all of us to
If you have an idea, talk to one of
the current coordinators and see
how they got started and how to
organize. At the monthly luncheons
or interest group meetings,
visit with friends and see what
new areas UWC members could
explore.
Thank you to all who encouraged
potential members to join
and to you who worked to spread
the word!
