n The Santa Casa 5% campaign
ing scene, a US stadium and a Brazilian scene, all in three days.
The stadium scene was achieved with rows of bleachers in a
six-sided stadium and 200 extras, which was then made to
look like a crowd of thousands in post-production.”
GreenGo also made a spot for the film Rio, which had
Jamie Foxx on the beach in Rio de Janeiro, descending on a zip
line, in costume, into a pool of blue feathers.
According to Steve Solot at the Rio de Janeiro Film Commission,
his office is being bombarded with shooting requests.
“Since the end of filming of Fast & Furious 5 last November, it
has been non-stop. And on top of that, the film Rio has really
focused people’s attention on this city’s great sites and tourist
spots, which has had a very positive effect generally.”
Although the city’s favelas may seem to still be no-go
areas, Solot sees them very differently: “There is a very active
‘pacification programme’, fully supported by the state secretary
of security, which is working very well because it is being
done with real imagination. For example, there was the Five
Times Favela film, which featured stories of and by favela dwellers
did well at the Cannes Film Festival and is changing outsiders’
opinion of these areas, but one of the most significant changes
was the installation of a 3D cinema in a favela known as Alemao,
where the locals get a discount. The positive effect it has
had on the community is quite remarkable. And it’s important
to remember that the favelas are not just shanty towns, they
are a huge source of labour for the city.” ^
