Technology is
focus of $million
challenge
THE LATEST Million Dollar
Challenge issued by Miles
Nadal, chairman and CEO of
MDC Partners, is — unsurprisingly
— focused on the technologies
revolutionising creativity.
He spoke at the end of
the MDC Partners & Crispin
Porter + Bogusky seminar Five
For Five.
“If you’ve got a great technology
idea, social-media analytics,
anything else that will prove
the effectiveness of creativity
or enhance the effectiveness
of marketing communication,
bring it to us. Any technology-driven
idea, we want to
invest in it. We will look at each
and every opportunity. If we
can find one we will invest
$1m, if we can find five we will
invest $5m.
“We’ve invested $50m in new
talent in the last three years
and we think it’s really worked
very well for us. It’s not a gim-
Miles Nadal: “We will look at each and every opportunity”
mick, it’s the real deal.” As if
to prove that, last year’s challenge
— offering $1m for an
outstanding start-up idea —
has become a fast-expanding
reality. The successful proposal
from Kip Voytek, an interactive
advertising consultant,
was for a Digital Works Institute,
to teach digital creativity
on a non-profit basis.
Nadal told the Lions Daily News
that the initial, New York-based
school has 40 full-time students
and about 200 people in executive
programmes. Another
two institutes are planned, to
be based in North America.
“They will probably be larger
than the first school,” Nadal
said.
Entries to the challenge can
be submitted at milliondollarchallenge.com,
closing date
is the end of September, any
winner chosen by the end of
November. ^
